Infamous for the seedy world of mobsters and original gangsters, Chicago has
birthed a breed of talented musicians in the shadows of a hustling mind frame.
Ro’Zay Richie, better known as Cap 1, is a love child of Chicago’s Southside. A mixt
of street smarts and raw artistic skills, it was not long before the young Cap 1 found
his niche in life. Growing up with a musician for a father introduced him to a world
he was easily seduced by.
Influenced by hip-hop forefathers like Run DMC and Slick Rick, he tried
his luck with free-styling. His impeccable knack for the craft quickly gained him
recognition. Making history as the first rapper signed to the legendary Motown
Records in 2000, Cap 1 was sure his time to shine was now. The Source Magazine,
a staple publication in the hip-hop community, was thrilled to document this
pivotal moment in history. His debut album, “Through The Eyes Of A Don”, blessed
him with the opportunity to work with industry heavy weights like Jazze Pha and
Twista. His sophomore album, “Theory Of Life”, was soon to follow. But when the
deal with Motown lost its momentum, Cap 1 took to what he knew best. Hustling.
Back to the drawing board, he was determined to see his career reach the heights
he envisioned.
Relocating to Atlanta, Cap 1 wasted no time getting to work. He created
quite the stir in the music scene, co-writing hits like Yung Berg’s “Sexy Can I”, and
“Lipgloss and Ponytail” featuring Bobby Valentino, showcasing an alternate side to
the hard hitting street lyricist. The industry was taking notice once again as he made
a smooth transition from a performer, to a writer. Cap 1 was in his element yet
again as he became a regular fixture around Ludacris’s label Disturbing Tha Peace,
where he became associated with Duffle Bag Boyz rapper Tity Boi (now known as 2
Chainz). The two easily developed a brotherhood of sorts as they noticed they had a
lot in common once they started working together.
Touring with 2 Chainz, and Young Money’s Drake and Nicki Minaj have
proved to be some career highlights. “Having my own slot on a national tour is a
big deal”, says a reflective Cap 1, “The torch is being passed to me.” His undeniable
talent and determination have earned him the acclamation of being the first artist
off of Def Jam signee 2 Chainz’s label as well as a management deal with Street Execs
that he describes as happening “organically”. Currently working on a new mixtape,
“Tru To It”, he looks forward to his impending success. Priding himself on his ability
to bounce back from less than ideal circumstances, he vows that this will be the
greatest come back he ever makes; as it is the year of the underdog for him. With a
buzz bubbling to overflow, Cap 1 is an artist on the rise to keep a close eye on.

Hailed by Rolling Stone as being “the hottest duo in rap,” the City Girls has successfully claimed their stake as being the most notorious power players in female Hip Hop. Yung Miami (Caresha Romeka Brownlee) and JT (Jatavia Shakara Johnson), known for being authentic, uncensored and unapologetic, took the world by storm with their first two projects Period and Girl Code, followed by their contribution on Drake’s number one pop hit “In My Feelings.” The first ladies of Quality Control Music, Yung Miami and JT’s knack for storytelling mixed with their infectious personalities are responsible for empowering a cult following of women who not only have something to say but aren’t afraid to say it. 

City Girls’ presence and ascent, as their lyrics suggest, are attributable to their resilience, pride and just a little bit of finesse. From “Take Yo Man,” “Pussy Talk,” multiplatinum and gold-selling single “Twerkulator,” their recent release “Top Notch,” and their latest release “Good Love ft Usher,” there’s no shortage of bravado, pleasures (both carnal and material), or pursuit of opportunities in their songs, which brim with a buoyant nonchalance, as if begging for someone to challenge them. This ownership over who they are—without shame or pause—that oozes from their music, carrying the proud, sex-positive hustler’s DNA of the Florida rap that preceded them.

Jay Syd is an artist born in Germany but based in Texas. He brings a familiar, yet distinct sound that carries melodies close to rap but keeps the R&B vocals in touch. His music path started in percussion. Playing the drums lead him to a scholarship but decided to pursue music which led his path to Dallas. He grew a large fan base with continuous shows and now resides in Houston.

Jagged Edge is an American R&B group; featuring lead singers, identical twins Brandon and Brian Casey “The Casey Boys”, born in Hartford, Connecticut on October 13, Kyle Norman of Decatur, Georgia born on February 26 and Richard Wingo of College Park, Georgia born on September 3. Wingo was a late addition to the group, added after Kandi Burruss of Xscape recommended he be added. Kandi was also the one who brought the group to the attention of Dupri.

Signed through Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def Records to Columbia Records, the group has had a number of hit singles, many of which are produced by Dupri. Lead singers Brandon and Brian have written the bulk of the groups material. They have also written for Usher, Nivea and Toni Braxton. In addition to their projects, the group has collaborated with a number of artists. Jagged Edge began their mainstream recording career with the single “The Way That You Talk”. They followed this in 1998 with the album, A Jagged Era which managed to go gold featuring the singles “I Gotta Be” and “The Way That You Talk”. “I Gotta Be” which was written by the twins, reached #11 on the R&B charts and #23 on the Hot 100. Following up their debut album, Jagged Edge released J.E. Heartbreak in 2000. The album was the group’s breakthrough album with several popular singles. The album went double platinum and had the hit single “Let’s Get Married” which topped the R&B charts and reached #11 on the Hot 100. The album’s second single, “He Can’t Love You” (released January 18, 2000) had similar success, reaching #3 on the R&B charts and #15 on the Hot 100. It also featured the track “Promise” which, albeit a late single coming out in 2000, reached #1 on the R&B charts and #9 on the Hot 100.

The group’s third release, Jagged Little Thrill, was released in 2001 and went platinum. Its success was in large part, due to the up- tempo “Where The Party At,” which reached #1 on the R&B charts and #3 on the Hot 100, the group’s highest charting single. Jagged Edge’s fourth album, Hard, was released in 2003 and went gold. The album’s single “Walked Outta Heaven” performed well on the charts, reaching #6 on the Hot 100 and #2 on the R&B charts. Jagged Edge’s fifth album, Jagged Edge, was released on May 9, 2006 and it went gold. It featured the hit urban single “Good Luck Charm”. Also released on November 21, 2006 was The Hits collection featuring Jagged Edge’s biggest hits plus a few album tracks. The album shared the single “Stunnas” that’s also on the Jagged Edge album as a bonus track. Jagged Edge’s sixth album was “Baby Makin Project.” The only single released off Baby Makin’ Project was “Put a Little Umph in it” featuring Ashanti. It reached #49 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart. The group recorded so much material for the project that they saved eight of the tracks for another album, the album titled “The Remedy” was released June 21, 2011. The project had one collaboration with Rick Ross. The first warm- up single from “The Remedy” is “Tip of My Tongue” featuring Slip ‘N Slide Records’ recording artists Trina and Gucci Mane. A second warm-up single, “Lay You Down”, was released before the “official” single titled “Baby”. Now Jagged Edge is back with So So Def for 2014. The hit machine is once again in full effect with songs written and produced by Brian & Brandon Casey (JE), Bryan Michael Cox and Jermaine Dupri.
