For the ninth year, I’ve been putting together this mix which is a personal selection / exploration of healing and transformative music: songs that have a deep sense of spirituality without being religious in nature. A feeling that can be found in music of all genres, eras and cultures.

On a usual year anywhere on the planet, a beautiful spring morning feels like a precious gift. However these past years have been anything but usual. I would like to dedicate this mix to all that have lost loved ones, faced difficulties and personal challenges.

We are thrilled to dive into the spring season with a guest mix by the miraculous Brazilian/Danish DJ crew Batukizer.  

Batukizer's sets are composed of hand-picked, infectious dance tunes from a vast collection representing Brazilian sounds from the 60s to the 90s. It's all thanks to their extensive digging trips through the megacities of Rio and São Paulo as well as through South and Northeast Brazil, and the Amazon. They have made a significant contribution to the discovery of amazing and often forgotten Brazilian music through their series of mixtapes and their obsession with finding obscure and rare dance records. Their mixtapes have been shared by The Vinyl Factory, NTS Radio, My Analogue Journal, Discogs, Le mellotron, Gouranga, Kiosk Radio, Music for Dreams, and more.

For VDS, they have handpicked a beautiful atmospheric and spiritual jazzy journey. What better way to ease into the warmer season?

The latest eddition of Bside (#170) welcomes a jazzy duo from Switzerland, brothers who go by the name of Okvsho. They have stepped onto the global stage and are making a real name for themselves with their signature sound of combining live jazz improv with deep house blends. The live shows of these increadibly talented, young instrumentalists have caught the attention of all who have been lucky enough to see them perform, characterized by driving rhythms that creates an immersive dancing experience. The brothers from Zurich released their first EP consisting of 6 tracks in 2018 at the age of only 19 and 21 which quickly paved their way to NST and Bandcamp weekly;

In 2020 they produly released their first full album with a more live instument focus which genuinely does feel like an emotional jouney when listening through. Expect deep cuts mixed with emotinal keys and of course high qulaity musicuanship througout;

Their most recent EP I would say is their best sounding release yet as they return to the simplicity of beat making/looping with the playful and improvised jazz elements the duo is known for but more mature and refined. 'Orange Wine' is a 7 track EP released on the legendary French label HipDozer filled with thick guitar baselines, intricut precussion and brass melodys which will make you want to come back for more;

For their Bside Podcast they selected a treasure trove of records spanning various genres; jazz infused house, funky basslines, latin guitar, London modern-jazz, hip-hop, treating us finally with an increadible 20 minute live set recording from 1970 Boston from a jazz band who inspried Okvsho.

De Kat Memwa is a mix series which aims to cherish talented artists from all over the world who are seeking to promote non-obvious music through thoughtful storytelling! 

De Kat Memwa is curated by Prince of Gosplan (Kirill O.) who is also performing as a DJ under the eponymous name.

De Kat Memwa is a resident of Malmö-based @retreatradio with (non-)ambient show 'Deep Relief' and collaborative experimental dance music show 'Ordealia' w/ @jonteprippz 

In the beginning, in addition, to the mix series De Kat Memwa was extended as DJ's trio with the participation of @andrew-lipa & @andreykalder. All the founding members are disseminated between Sweden, Germany and the USA which makes a collective performance impossible. However, altogether we are involved in the curation and production of 'Deep Relief' show!
