the raft, the curtain, the story we choose, or the one imposed.

I attended my cousin's funeral yesterday. Despite her difficult childhood and youth, she was a cheerful, life-affirming, and very empathetic woman who was taken from her life and ours far too early by cancer. We will all miss her affection, her helpfulness, her encouraging and thoughtful manner.
During the funeral service, I was struck by the thought that we humans are like mayflies, ignoring or not wanting to acknowledge that the gift of life is very brief and very finite.
On the other hand, that's a good thing. How else would we cope with it?

This song is for Annette. Rest in peace.
