ぼくらの小さな魔法は　/　Utopians (Jun Kuroda + apca*)

いつか、いつかの夏休み。僕は不思議な少女に出会った。
皆は、魔法とか、神様とか、そういうものを信じるだろうか？また、信じたことはあるだろうか？
これは、僕と彼女が残した秘密の思い出のお話。

その日は、8月なのに妙に涼し気な風が吹いていた。その爽やかな空気に誘われて、僕はまだ手付かずの宿題も放って人里離れた神社まで散歩に行くことにした。そこはそう遠くない場所であったが、まだ

踏み入ったことのない場所だった。周りの大人達の誰もが危ないから山に近寄るなと言っていたからというのもあるかもしれない。

神社に着いて、境内を眺めていると　一人の少女が座っているのが見えた。
「君はどこから来たの？」
『あなたこそ、こんな所に何しに来たの？』
「何もすることがないから来たのさ」
『それなら私と遊びましょ。ちょうど退屈していたところだわ。』

とはいえ何か特別なことをするでもなく、彼女と他愛のない話をしたり、神社でかくれんぼをしたりするうちに夕方になった。
「そろそろ帰らなきゃ、またね」
『わかった、また明日ね。』
彼女がその日の帰り際、何気なく手渡したのは、一冊の日記帳だった。
『これから毎日交換日記をしない？』
「ああ、別にいいけど。」
『あと、この神社と、私と出会ったことは内緒にしてね。』
「いいけど、なんで？」

『――知りたくなくても知る時がくるかもしれないけど』
小声で彼女が言った。　聞き返したがはぐらかされてしまった。

それからというもの、僕は夏休みが終わるまで毎日彼女に会いに行くこととなった。不思議なことに、行くたびに彼女はそこにいた。
とはいえ、特に変わった様子もなく、ただ夏休みを満喫していただけだった。
――ただひとつ、ここが人里離れた山中の神社であることを除けば。

楽しい日々はあっという間に過ぎ去り、8月の31日。　僕は変わらず彼女に会いに行った。

いつもと変わらず二人で夕方まで何気ない時を過ごし、別れの時間がやってきた。

「じゃあ、そろそろ帰るね。また明日。」
『わかった、また明日ね。』
「明日から学校だね。」

『そうだね、あのね――』

直後に付け加えるように彼女が言う。

『交換日記、明日は私の番だけど、明日は書けないから明日も君に任せたいんだけど……ちょっと貸してもらってもいい？』

言うと、一瞬彼女の手から光が差し、日記帳が淡く光った。
「何が起こったの？」
『これは今から普通の日記じゃない。魔法の日記。みんなには普通の日記にしか見えないけど、あなたにだけはその日の出来事をまるで体験しているかのように思い返すことができる力を宿しているの。』
「どういうこと？」
『帰ったら読んでみて。また会えるといいね。』

――気が付くと、そこはベッドの上だった。日付は9月1日、遅刻しそうになりながらも始業式を済ませて神社に向かったが、そこには何もなかった。
一緒に座った切り株も、かくれんぼで隠れた物陰も、秘密の思い出話をした賽銭箱の裏も。まるで最初からそんなものがなかったかのように、ただ山の景色が広がっているだけだった。

夢だったのか、本当だったのか、今は知る由もない。
ただ、そこには確かに魔法の日記が存在していた。

別れを惜しんだ神様が唯一人間に見える形で残した、不思議な日記帳。
