Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it have labored in vain. Unless the Lord guards the city, the watchmen have watched in vain. It is vain for you to rise early: rise up after your sitting, you who eat the bread of grief; while He gives sleep to His beloved.

Behold, children are the inheritance of the Lord, the reward of the fruit of the womb. As arrows in the hand of a mighty man, so are the children of one's youth. Blessed is the man who has his quiver full of them; they shall not be ashamed when they speak with their enemies in the gates. ALLELUIA.

Happy Feast! 

She came with the spices
To thy tomb O Lord,
Knowing not that Thou
Above the earth had soared.
She came void of all hope;
She came expecting death;
Forgetting the Life-Giver
Who is the living breath.

In trials and tribulations,
Do we not do the same:
Looking at our errors,
Despairing in our blame?
How often do we wallow,
Abandoning all hope –
As though on our own –
With burden we could cope.

If Peter lost all hope when
Our Lord exposed his sin,
Luke would not record
The three thousand he would win.
If Paul considered nothing
But his murderous past,
Would his inspired letters
To this generation last?

Moses’ life was evil,
Every sin he did commit,
But from this desert bandit,
A shining lamp was lit.
If Mary, Egypt’s harlot,
Had not tried to win his grace,
Would she now be in heaven –
Would she have won the race?

Our Lord set an example,
Compelled, we do the same:
Fight, strive, persevere and
On us will be no blame.
If our loving Saviour
Had not endured all pain,
Would Redemption and Salvation
Ever be our gain?

I come now with hope

“Father God” is a song about man’s fallen state and his subsequent realization of the indescribable goodness of a new life with God and the change it brought about. This new life, in which man comes to understand and appreciate his full purpose and potential, is established through the Holy Sacrament of Baptism in the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The use of “managed” here does not imply our ability to exist, survive, or endure without Existence and Life Himself. Instead, it is an emphatic proclamation of man’s acknowledgement of his dire need for, yet unworthiness of, salvation.

Coptic Orthodox Christian youth from around the country have collaborated to put together this collection of psalms in the format that they were meant to be prayed – as songs. We hope that you find a psalm for every season of your life – for times of hope and encouragement, times of despair and crying out to God, times of joy, and times of praise.

We pray that God may bless everyone who contributed and that His beautiful words may soften our hearts towards His immeasurable love for us. Look forward to more psalms being added in the future.
