Just me fucking about in the studio with only modular gear. Nothing is prepared (except the patch) or preconceived, no editing or post production of any kind, so just rough-n-ready as it comes, worts-n-all. 

Really this is just for the interest of synth geeks, and in particular wiggler geeks. And for me to document what i've been doing/learning with the modular. 

Do not expect finished tracks, these are noodlings at best.

Day 1, 3rd Recording. Live modular wiggling.

First day of owning the MakeNoise Shared System. This is my third jam with it and also the third recording. The other recordings where a drone for the first one and a less impressive version of this plinky plonkness (consider that recording as a warm-up for this one) ;-) - those recordings will get used in other compositions. This upload though I wanted to keep in the spirit of the shared system series.

This recording is just me getting used to using the system and is inspired by the youtube tutorials by MakeNoise.

The verb is provided by the Valhalla Halls card in a Z-DSP. 

No other processing has been done.

A sound test of the Aion Modular 904A Filter filtering the Cwejman S1. 

S1 OSC -> 904A -> S1 Audio In. 

ENV2 is controlling the 904A cutoff a little, and sometimes i'm letting the S1 overdrive the signal a bit... cos I like it.

I also mess about selecting various wave forms and playing with the ENV, not very scientific I'm afraid but hopefully gives you an idea of the sound of this filter. I also tweek the pattern and bpm live as well, so you'll get all them warts as well. Dont expect a polished performance or anything.

Cwejman S1 - Aion Modular 904A: Sound Test

The RF Nomad Techno 01 track I uploaded earlier was actually made from edits of a longer recording. This is a snippet of that live recording with no editing.

The original recording is something like 45 mins long, so this is just a approx. 8 min section of that longer recording that I thought rounded out nicely as a "track".

You can hear I bring the bass drum in a little too loud and had to back off straight away. Its also a little too boxy sounding for my taste.

This recording isn't meant to be a polished track at all, its just me trying out the RF Nomad in a more rhythmic way to see how I could potentially utilised it in the future; so i'm trying out the CV IN for the first time, I'm actually using 1 v/oct pitch CV to create pseudo notes at times (obviously there wont be any proper scale as such, but still I thought it would be interesting to hear the effect). I'm also using an ENV/VCA to shape the Nomad.

Everything you hear here is just a Mutant Bass Drum doing a very simple 4/4 pattern and a TR-808 closed hat on the off beats. The rest is all the RF Nomad. As you can hear its quite capable of doing some good percussion with a tight ENV and with the CV catching it just right. 

I did this recording during the day when I dont seem to pick up much radio chatter, which is a shame because I was hoping to pick up some spookyness. I will have to do this test again during the evening/night when I might pick up some distant voices as well.

The Next 15 Minutes

For the best part of a decade T15DM have been cultivating a post-electro, nu-tech-industrial sound aesthetic, that, until now has only been heard by the lucky attendees of their live excursions. Taking place in some of the more hedonistic sound dungeons that can be found in the sordid parts of our cities - the experience has been described as “dangerous, violent, chaotic and the epitome of anarchy”, a hint of which was witnessed in a recent teaser video.

The 15 Dead Minutes, a trio of Paul Mayhem (Dr Skunkenstein), David Froud (Heuristic Audio) and David Campbell (Delinquent Dialect) claim their sound has a more profound meaning to its attitude and that its not anarchy for anarchy's sake, though the three are choosing not to divulge more on their artistic explorations and instead allowing their work to speak, or should I say scream for itself.

Warning! The 15 Dead minutes, are due to release their debut EP on Templedog records, which is a fitting release for this label too long in hibernation. Venomous with intent. FUDOG 007

Cwejman S1 Mk II sequenced by Cirklon, a little modulation by PEG and some cross modulation using the S1 OSC (you can see the patch cables), effecting FM and what-have-you. 

I'm also using an RF Nomad module as another sound source (fed into the S1 MMF), I'm using the S1 pitch out to control the frequency of the RF Nomad as well as the S1 MMF (multi mode filter) a little bit. You can actually hear the RF Nomads pitch drifting in and out here and there.

The reverb is Valhalla Halls.

Its not a finished track or anything like that, just me fiddling with the pots for 15 mins over a prerecorded drum loop. As a kind of sound demo.

I love the S1 + RF Nomad combination, so filthy sounding!

Electro. 

Kraftwerk invented it in the seventies. Hip hop jacked it in the eighties. Techno took it underground in the nineties. And then strange things happened in the noughties. House and dubstep co-opted the word "electro", shifting its meaning and confusing people. Good people. People like YOU. 

You've forgotten what real electro sounds like. But that's ok, because we're here to remind you. Electro is the sound of robots dreaming of a science fiction future, making machine music in their bedrooms with pulsing drum machines, while their keytars gently bleep. OK, maybe not so much the keytars, but probably some squelching synths, and sci fi samples and even the occasional vocoder, all washed down with lashings and lashings of funk. 

Today, electro continues to evolve, embracing modern production techniques and digital sound design, mutating into something so alien it barely resembles most of today's dance music. And yet it does. It SO does, and we have over 100 tracks that prove it, from relentless dancefloor tracks to intricately tweaked bedroom chin-scratchers; from melodic retro tributes to the escapist soundtrack of science fiction futures.

Another 15 minutes of unrelenting dystopian soundscapes delivered with energetic fervour. It only seems like yesterday when we uploaded the Internal Dialogue video onto youtube and the first "15 Minutes" onto Soundcloud, yet its been over a year. During that time, we as a group of individuals have had a manic time of it. So in PR spiel "Due to unforeseen circumstance..." the planned release of FUDOG 007 suffered some set backs. In truth FUDOG 007 became less of a priority for us as other important life events demanded our attention.

This second 15 minute instalment is in answer to some attention we've been getting and to let you all know that we have stoked the fires again—we are back to producing. T15DM are open for business once again. So anyone interested in remixes, suitable collaborations and gigs should get in contact. 

As for FUDOG 007, its still on the cards but we're not making any promises for the time being.

Flip for 'Fibril' where the 303 gets mangled and twisted, melancholic melodies drowning in running tape delays, wobbling analog pulses- frustrated funk in full effect. 'Internal Dialogue' closes the B, all dark driving basslines and glitchy sounds going all over the place, straight to the point mixed up machine madness. A perfect soundtrack for a dark basement full of smoke and strobe light. Proper underground electro for those that do because they couldn't care less.
