Thirteen years ago the Nurture label released upekah, the one and only single to come under the son.sine alias. It’s an alias of a New Zealander who released only a select few EPs under different monikers, and one that sounds as good today as it did back then given all its dub infused techno glory. It’s always been hard to come buy but now Delsin are remastering and rereleasing it into the world once more.

First up is the title track, a double deep track of spacious, gently pulsing dub that initially revels in blissfully ambient swirls before growing a touch more edgy and metallic in the latter half thanks to some panning steel stabs.

On the flip, 'karuna' is just as deep and cavernous. Filling the huge chambers of echo and reverb are more ambient patterns, subtle beams of light and an ever churning, grainy dub undercurrent. Lastly, 'Mudita' is more propulsive and up right, with hunched drums rotating below and rueful ambient drones up top. Classy business indeed from the New Zealander.

All good things must come to an end and so it is that the landmark series of EPs from Delsin wraps up with instalment 5. The last part of the 100th release celebratory jigsaw comes from BNJM, Delta Funktionen, Herva, Bleak and John Beltran. It’s a great final chapter that completes the story of the label by offering timeless and melancholic sounds from a wide spread of genres.

First is the murky underwater ambiance of BNJMN’s ‘Dive’, which ripples and echoes beautifully before Delta Funktionen’s ‘Petrol’ offers up far more raw and angry sounds in a heavyweight, spitting electro mould. ‘Radio's Mutterings’ sounds just like that, with skittish frequencies, bristling white noise and only the most feint traces of melody anywhere within earshot.

On the flip side, one Swedish techno’s finest, Bleak, unravels some steely techno loops and underpins them with a thick bed of rubbery kick drums and the final word on this excellent series comes from ambient auteur John Beltran. His ‘Return to Nightfall’ has bristling hi hats coated in angelic and harmonic pads and eventually takes off on a well-padded beat. It’s the sort of thing that stays with you long after its finished playing, much like the Delsin label as a whole.

There is a new artist from Japan followed by the name Kakeru who is giving his Shaw Cuts debut with „Raw Courage“, telling the story of an emperor besieged by an army who then entrusts his child to the Black Dragon Clan heading off to a dangerous journey.
An attempt to usurp the Ming Emperor's throne by the sinister martial artist simply known as „old monster" and his armies results in most of the palace being massacred. „Quagmire“ and its vibrant percussive pattern carried by a heavy broken kick and a driving bassline help the emperor’s infant son to escape and put in care of the Black Dragon Clan. 
En route they are attacked by government forces but rescued by two knights. They prove to be a valuable addition to the party in subsequent encounters with their pursuers. „Mirror Forest“ and its laid-back atmosphere, mysterious vocal snatches and shining pads carried by an expressive drum pattern help the travellers parrying every sneaky attack on their journey. 
Trying to head to the White Dragon Clan in order to seek for help, the squad has to masquerade and take several battles, always protecting the baby in tow. The razor-sharp percussions, corrosive bass and thrashing kick of „Swaying“ tremendously supports the warriors in each fight.
Finally they make it to the temple of the White Dragons where they show their Black Dragon seal as a sign of solidarity. But all of a sudden the mood changes. „Broken Bubbles“ and its menacing atmosphere built up by a monstrous sub bass, reduced but impactful drums and subtle synth elements underline the potential threat. Did they walk into a trap? Is there enough energy left for one big fight? Raw courage is vital now.

n his debut album, raptAGOG draws inspiration from imagined scenes of geological movement — tectonic plates shifting, subducting, and pressing against one another. This hidden but perpetual motion beneath us stores potential energy, waiting for the moment of release, when the earth begins to shift and reshape.

The album opens into a rugged, shifting landscape, where sounds roll and echo in gradual motion. This energy builds across the work, unfolding through cycles of tension and release. Earthy and textural sounds ground the work in a shifting and fracturing geology.

Step aboard Owl’s intergalactic vessel and drift through the eerie beauty of the cosmic void, where particles of sound float freely - weightless and untamed. They begin to spiral toward one another, forming a swirling horde that grows stronger with every pulse. From their majestic collisions, new worlds emerge - each beat a planet, each drop a creation.

Belgium‑based artist and sound‑sculptor Pierre Nesi performs under the moniker Owl, crafting immersive deep‑space soundscapes where rhythm and atmosphere collide. With roots in drum & bass and ambient textures, his music invites listeners into orbit around pulsating atmospheres and emergent worlds. First spotted on Nord Label, and more recently appearing on Silent Season, Lowless, Huinali, Stasis, DNO, re:st and Muzan Editions, Owl’s subtle but distinct sonic journeys continue to evolve. His discography spans autonomic DnB, dreamy melancholy ambient, and genre‑bending leftfield explorations, further cementing his reputation as a master of sonic depth and expressiveness.

What we get to hear during this one hour of “Dynamic Spheres” is nothing less than a cosmic ritual. Taken from ambient worlds of divine purity the mix gradually builds up into deep and hypnotic breakbeats, which oscillate flawlessly between a spacey trippyness and more tribalistic streams. This is not a journey forward or back, but through: a descent into weightless space where halftime meets progression, and silence becomes motion.

Dynamic Spheres #033 - Owl

For this edition of the Futurepast podcast, we welcome Synthbiont & Anassimandrus, the ambient / experimental / dub techno project of Nicolò Faggiani and Tommaso Gobbo. Formed in late 2018, the duo merges digital and analogue processes, processed field recordings, and sampling to sculpt immersive soundscapes rooted in texture, movement, and atmosphere.

“Experimentation is always at the core of our process. We start with organic sounds and environmental textures, mostly field recordings we collect ourselves in different places and moments.”

The mix unfolds as an exploration of identity and intuition, a dialogue between tribal rhythm, granular synthesis, and spatial depth. Their sound has been shaped by both familiar and unexpected influences: Spekki Webbu, Sarah Wreath, o.utlier, Astral Industries, Adrian Newgent, and the collective energy of Modem Festival.

Opening with one of their unreleased tracks, the set carries the raw momentum of their upcoming album work, a hypnotic drift through sound and transformation, where each layer resonates with motion, memory, and change.

Futurepast Podcast 27 - Synthbiont & Anassimandrus

Berlin-based artist YYARD makes his debut EP 'parasympathetic' on From a Los Place, a release which is the perfect definition of the artist's eclecticism, blending groove and jazz influences with very meticulous rhythms, rich and organic percussions perfectly suited for the dance floor. 

With roots in Cologne and Berlin, YYARD represents a musical project of pianist, keyboarder and producer Yannis Anft. Drawing inspiration from his many years of experience as a jazz pianist, dancing through nights in clubs and his enthusiasm for other genres of music and art forms. 

Born in 1993, Anft started playing the piano at the age of 11. From 2013 to 2019, he studied jazz piano at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne, with teachers such as Hubert Nuss and Jürgen Friedrich. Since then he has been active as a pianist, keyboardist and producer. In addition to engagements in numerous side projects based in various genres, he names Hip Hop/Neo Soul act SALOMEA and his own project Delusional Mind as his main projects.
