Nos últimos anos, a Secretaria de Estado da Saude (SES) registrou um aumento nos casos por doença meningocócica/meningite em Santa Catarina. Até outubro de 2025, foram confirmados 36 casos da enfermidade no estado.

De acordo com relatório recente da Diretoria de Vigilância Epidemiológica (DIVE), a doença tem apresentado oscilações. Em 2021, foram registrados 14 casos; em 2022, o número subiu para 26; em 2023, chegou a 30; e, em 2024, SC contabilizou 28 ocorrências.

O Programa Nacional de Imunizações (PNI) dispõe de diversas vacinas que previnem formas de meningite bacteriana, como BCG, Meningocócica C, Meningocócica ACWY, Haemophilus influenzae tipo B e Pneumocócica. Os imunizantes estão disponíveis gratuitamente nas Unidades Básicas de Saúde (UBS) de Santa Catarina.

Para a prevenção da doença meningocócica, a vacina meningocócica C conjugada está disponível para crianças a partir dos três meses de idade até menores de cinco anos — com doses aos 3 e 5 meses e reforço aos 12 meses com a vacina ACWY.

A vacina ACWY também integra a rotina para adolescentes de 11 a 14 anos.

Aumento também em óbitos

O aumento no número de óbitos também foi notificado: em 2024 foram registrados três, enquanto em 2025 o número subiu para sete. Embora os casos estejam distribuídos pelo estado, destaca-se maior concentração na Região de Saúde da Serra Catarinense (16,67% dos casos), seguida da Região Nordeste (13,89%). A faixa etária mais acometida é a de 30 a 39 anos (27,78%).

Entre os sorogrupos identificados, o C apresenta maior incidência e letalidade — para ele há vacina disponível no SUS para crianças e adolescentes. Dos sete óbitos registrados neste ano, três (42,8%) foram causados pelo sorogrupo C, em pessoas entre 20 e 39 anos, resultando em uma taxa de letalidade de 19,4%.

A meningite é uma doença grave e de evolução rápida, caracterizada pela inflamação das meninges, membranas que recobrem o sistema nervoso central. Pode ser causada por bactérias, vírus, fungos ou até fatores não infecciosos, como traumatismos.

Prevenção e controle: medidas não farmacológicas

– Manter ambientes bem ventilados;

– Higienizar frequentemente as mãos com água e sabão ou álcool gel;

– Limpar e desinfetar superfícies e objetos de uso comum;

– Garantir rigorosa higiene de utensílios e brinquedos em domicílios, creches e escolas;

– Não compartilhar objetos de uso pessoal, como copos e talheres.

O médico infectologista da DIVE, Fábio Gaudenzi, participou de entrevista no Cruz de Malta Notícias desta sexta-feira (28) e reforçou a importância da vacinação diante do aumento de casos de meningite aqui no estado.
