Boris Bunnik has finished his third full-length album as Conforce. Entitled Kinetic Image, the ten-track album is to be released on Delsin in November following on from his standout offering, Escapsim, back in 2011.

In the last few years, Dutchman Bunnik has established himself as one of the most prolific producers in many different sonic realms. From deep, stripped down explorations to raw and rugged techno via conceptual and cinematic sound design projects, he is a master craftsman who coaxes evocative sounds from both analogue and digital tools whether working as Versalife, Silent Harbour or any of his other monikers.

Kinetic Image, though, is the sound of Conforce producing without the dancefloor in mind. It’s the sound of him moving away from the past and into the present. The album has very much been designed to be heard in one sitting, as a complete experience that moves away from regimented 4/4 beats and into slower, more surreptitious tempos.

The result is an all consuming sonic journey of intriguing and inspiring sounds that range from full on cerebral excursions into vast open spaces that throb invitingly (Scientific Trajectory) to underwater daydreams that suspend you deep in an ocean as various mycobacterial details float by. There’s also more industrial sounding fair that depicts a desolate warehouse in perennial decay (Semantic Field) and mysterious echo chambers that spread out all around you as celestial light beams and haunting melodic ripples gently float by as per the excellent Temporary Reversals.

An aquatic vibe pervades – no doubt a side effect of recent projects under other monikers – and the title itself relates to the fact that Conforce wanted to make moving images and art that evolve and unfold like passing landscapes. He sure has done that, because Kinetic Images is like an imaginary soundtrack to the last days of Atlantis… it sucks you in, it churns you about and it makes for music that consumes your whole conscious and rewards it with very real sonic imagery.

As is always the case with this label, the album comes with bespoke artwork from Dutch designers Graphic Surgery who are inspired by “urban environments” and “experimental electronic music from the 1990’s”. Created using an analogue spray paint/stencil technique, each 'box' or 'step' is an original image on paper and gives rise to the aesthetic of minor failures. As such, the repetitive and monochromatic design they have come up with for Kinetic Images is both structured and architectural yet dynamic and fluid at the same time. Completed with crisp typography and luxurious amounts of negative space, it’s artwork as considered as the music it conceals.

To mark the occasion of Delsin hitting 100 releases, the label is to release five new various artist EPs throughout the rest of the year. Besides a special collector's box edition, all EPs will be offered separately, with limited edition colour runs and unlimited black copies. All fifteen tracks will also be compiled onto one CD. Label mates Convextion, Sawlin and Ross 154 (aka Newworldaquarium) contribute one tack each for the third EP in the series.

Heavy techno dude Sawlin offers up just that: stiff rhythms of industrial percussion, grainy lo-fi pads and plenty of fuzzy textures are all on display in his seriously heady jam 'Zeitstempel'. Next up is Convextion with his breezy, summery jam 'Verna'. With a squelchy and snaking bassline and subtly uplifting pads, it twists and turns as it drives forward, and so will you.

Finally for this installment, 'Moon FM Desire' (first released on 15dsr CD) is a serene and slo-mo trip by Ross 154 with tumbling drums and thin, heavenly pads. A piece of music full of pain and lovelorn drama by the man also known as Newworldaquarium.

Running Back boss Gerd Janson and fellow German Phillip Lauer are Tuff City Kids and are the next pairing to contribute to Delsin’s house leaning series. Their only previous EP came on Ostgut sub label Unterton and the tracks they offer up here continue in a similarly raw and analogue house vein.

Opener 'HFS' is a louche and laid back affair. It’s a spacious track with plenty of ambient textures as well as hollow sounding melodies and more grating percussive stabs. A beguiling combination of the blissful and the brutal its about as fresh as house can sound in the modern day. The more kinetic ‘Wendy (Girlfriend 43 Piano Mix)’ is underpinned by a rasping, hiccupping bassline and is built on heavy rubber kicks whilst a lead melody brings a sense of brightness to the otherwise murky mix. Completing the fine trio of tracks on vinyl is 'Reeze'. With its well-defined drums and snares, ramshackle percussive flourishes and juddery bass, it's a sketchy slo-jam that will work crowds into a stupor with ease.

Finally, buyers of a digital persuasion get treated to bonus cut 'Wendy (Girlfriend 44 PiaNO Mix)' that does away with the pianos and instead surges down a darkened an desolate urban landscape.

Following in the footsteps of Sawlin and Yan Cook last year, Ann Aimee has readied its next release. This one comes from UK tastemaker and Radio 1 presenter Mosca, and is his first release of the year after previous releases on labels like Martyn’s 3024 and Hypercolour.

First up is ‘It's Not What It Looks Like’ - a hunched over, industrial tinged house groove with rattling percussion and a heavy kick drum. Fully of grainy textures and clanging machines, the whole thing is backlit with serene pads and smeared with deft synth patterns. ‘Kneecap’ is even more direct, with tiny little off kilter chords bringing a sense of paranoia to the barrelling beats and bristling percussion. It’s muscular and heavy yet inviting, whilst final offering ‘Press Up’ is a beautifully swung bit of deep and atmospheric house – all the edges are nicely frayed and the whole thing is smoothed over with misty textures as the barrelled-up sense of funk grows more and more lively as things progress. It’s been a while since we heard from Mosca, but this one sure was worth the wait.

As always with this lovingly crafted label, the EP comes with full cover artwork by Boris Tellegen.

Mancunians AnD have lead the way when it comes to the industrial techno revolution of recent times and now serve up three such tracks on the small but perfectly formed Ann Aimee label after plenty of great work on their own eponymous imprint.

The titular track 'Ard Core Krew' kicks things off with squealing machines, huge dump piston sounds, metallic synths and brutalist kick drums. It’s a hostile world of sound in which it is easy to get disorientated, and ‘Changed My View’ is much the same, with every single element sounding raw, frazzled and under plenty of strain. It’s a fuzzy, dirty track with lots of detailed activity as well as huge stomping kick drums, which pin it all together. 'Free At Last' is the most propulsive and forward moving; surging as it does on a grimy brew of splintered hi hats, incessant kick drums and low fizzing frequencies. Aggressive techno never sounded so fresh!

From Ben Thomas aka BNJMN comes an entirely new and different project, BRACK. Following a string of excellent releases for the likes of Rush Hour and Delsin, the Berlin-based British producer has launched his own imprint. Its inaugural release promises to simultaneously satisfy long-time listeners, and throw them for a loop.

BRACK 001 sees BNJMN venturing outside his digital domain for the first time, eschewing polished, computer-based constructions for an altogether dirtier, darker sound. He’s in raw, rare form on this EP, layering distorted samples, seething synths and coarse drum work to hypnotic effect. Nevertheless, the young producer’s deft hand and knack for trance-inducing grooves shine through the miasma. As with his best works, these tracks are alternately retro and forward-leaning, expansive and introspective, and completely singular. With his new label, we can expect the same characteristic combination of sounds and sensibilities. Step into the unique sonic world of BRACK 001.

Next up on the Delsin off shoot that has so far offered up excellently deep house from Son.Sine and raw sounds from Gunnar Haslam is Sven Weisemann.  Known for his deep, atmospheric and cuddly house and dub on labels like Telrae and Mojuba, he draws on the heritage of Detroit and Chicago at the same time as imbuing tracks with his own sense of smoky, jazz infused soul. 

Up first here is 'Nijo', a crisp, crackling cut with heavenly pads and whispered vocals as well as a jostling, punchy drum line. It’s the rasping, bounce bassline that really sets things off, though, as it dynamically moves around and takes you with it every step of the way. 

Then comes 'Icaria', which again is smeared with blissful ambient pads, but also comes riddled with a lively, propulsive and buried deep drum line that makes this another forcefully deep house track despite its sensitive emotions. 
 
Lastly, 'Landscape' is a beatless dub excursion with synths shooting through it like rays of light through a deep ocean. A slowly churning current drives things along as you are left suspended in the midst of it all and this one closes out another superlative EP from both Delsin and Weisemann.

The Inertia sub-arm of Dutch label Delsin is back. After a series of 4 EPs back in 2012, followed by a mix compilation by Delta Funktionen, Inertia-5 introduces Discrete Circuit with a fierce three track EP that follows up previous releases on DVS1’s Mistress Recordings. The German artists Andreas and Szymon have been working together since 2012 and also promote their own Away parties across Europe as well as running a label of the same name.

When it comes down to combining the best of many musical worlds, Peter Van Hoesen can say he's been doing it for a while now. Deeply rooted in the Brussels electronic music scene as DJ and producer since 1993, he's considered by many as a man with multiple musical talents: from straight-up dancefloor jackin' techno to advanced abstract electronica. His music has been released on his own labels Time To Express and Foton as well as through Exone, Komisch, Lan Muzic, Curle, Meakusma and Morse. He's active as a DJ, producer, sound designer and composer for contemporary dance and theatre. Peter currently lives in Berlin.

This typically bombastic three-tracker of explosive, crowd-moving techno opens with ‘U Said U’. A massively hyped tracks that has been the subject of huge fan-demand since it first featured on Beyer’s Drumcode Radio in January. However, ’Love Siren’ will battle it out for the most attention from punters, packed with all the power and punch required to knock over festival crowds as it systematically builds and drops this is one for the big open air stages. ‘Rumours’ wraps things up in slightly more understated but non-the-less effective fashion with its drawn out, tension building intro mushrooming into a crescendo of sleazy chords and sparking melodies.

Manuel Fogliata, aka Nuel, is part of a new wave of techno coming from Italy, led by studio partner Donato Dozzy. Togheter Nuel and Dozzy have released two highly sought after Aquaplano EPs, now selling for hundreds of Euros in Discogs. The Aquaplano sounds explores hypnotic techno and meditative ambient in equal measure. Nuel is continuing to expand his musical horizons, with his latest EP explorig electro and drum and bass. In late 2011 he will release his debut album on Further Records , a beautiful and deeply introspective work.

This mix is a reconstructed version of the set I played at our most recent ‘Sound Garden’ chill out party in Tokyo. My aim was to showcase the darker and more sombre side of the sounds I have been listening to lately. In doing so, however, I was trying hard to keep the balance right, making sure that the overall mood would not be too heavy or oppressive. I think I managed to do this. In keeping with the way we do things on MNML SSGS, the tracklist will be posted later, but suffice to say, most of the music used was released in the last year or so. I would like to thank my fellow ‘Sound Garden’ hosts David and Jerome, Makoto and Orbit for providing such a wonderful venue for our party, and to everyone who came down and supported us this year. We will be returning in January 2012.

UN #09 Chris (MNML SSGS)

After four years of techno EPs for Delsin and Ann Aimee, Niels Luinenburg aka Delta Funktionen has finished his debut full length, Traces, due for release on June 18th 2012.

Though still very much couched in techno, the album sees Dutchman Delta – who recently mixed it up for Ann Aimee on their Inertia compilation – explore plenty of new sonic territory, as he often does in his long ranging DJ sets. It's adventurous, basically, and is an album that doesn't loose itself in intricate sound design, but instead pairs a raw, machine made aesthetic with plenty of real human soul and palpable earthly emotion. 

Says the man himself… "Traces is about my long time research into electronic music. It covers tracks that make reference to my favourite subgenres within electronic music: techno, house, electro and (Italo)-disco. There was no specific idea behind it because the album contains tracks made over a long time. Some are 3 years old, others were made this year, but in the end I think it sounds like a coherent piece of work."

It certainly does that, but so too does the album cover lots of ground, with not all of it completely focussed on the dancefloor. Made using a mixture of drum machines, FM and digital synthesizers, various bits of hardware and digital FX units, the whole thing was sequenced in Ableton with plenty of sample use to finish it off. 

From the atmospheric openings of blissful electro joint "Frozen Land" through the sultry and searching acid of "Enter" and on to more forceful cuts like "Redemption", this is an album for listening to as much as it is for dancing. Mood driven landscapes like "Onkalo" prove that, but you'll have to check it out for yourself to get a real appreciation of the story Delta Funktionen is telling.

This mix is basically a view into the nearest future of the label Kontra-Musik. New or unreleased Kontra-tracks are blended with some older and to me special rough and minimal techno tracks. Through is all I have tried to select music that is unique, engaging and special in some way.
The mix has been recorded using two Technics 1210, twp cd-players and my very old, hardly working analogue Vestax pmc-mixer. Some vinyls used are very old and sounds like shit. But as we all know by now, funk must remain impure. Before publishing good old Andreas Tilliander did some small mastering work to spice up the sound a bit. He is also the man behind the TM404 tracks in the beginning. TM404 uses a multiple set up of the the classic Roland machines TB-303 and TB 606 to create a mesmerizing acidic techno-drone. TM404 will release a full lenght album on Kontra-Musik in January. Hope you enjoy the mix!

Delsin is proud to announce that we are working with Will & Ink, a new label and production duo of the same name. Well, they aren’t really new, because individually Will & Ink are Dutchmen with many musical projects to their names. 

This new project, however, is something different. When Will & Ink got together for the first time they had a gut feeling that they could add something new to the techno world. This is why their raw and pounding sound is brought to life through custom-built hardware, which you can see in action during their unique live sets. 

Now those first tracks get an official release in the form of this three track Fermat EP. The opening track, First Fermat is a well swung, cantering techno groove with swinging hi hats and the sandiest of hits peeling off the top. The percussion and metallic rattles sound like nothing else and all in all it’s one of the most infectious warehouse styled tracks you are likely to hear. 

Second Fermat recalls the releases of Fachwerk and is built on the same bubbly, grip-y drums and clattering rhythm sections, but this time a dark, filtered vocal lurks in the middle to add an element of intensity and paranoia amongst the spangled synths.

Finally, Third Fermat is a little more stripped back. The textures are still sandy and rough edged, the beats still seem to lean into a stiff wind but here the hook is a frazzled, blistered little synth which tears up the middle of the track, hypnotising as it goes. This EP marks quite the debut for a pair that has many more special techno treats up their sleeves for the coming months, both in the studio and live arena.
