In an intricate lattice of ever-evolving electro exploration, Samuel Van Dijk (@mohlao) is back on Delsin with a new EP. Under his VC-118A alias, the Helsinki based producer presents a richly textured, cinematic strain of machine funk that reaches beyond dancefloor functionality to test the expressive potential locked within electro's crisp rhythmic framework.

There's a melancholic mood hovering over Avian as Van Dijk allows a subtle edge of distortion to creep into his flickering drum programming. The end result is a pensive sound that touches on the moodiness of orchestral composition, unfurling patiently across extended run times without losing focus. This new VA offers a journey through contemporary soundscapes, where sound, texture, and rhythm interacts with fluidity. Nine productions revolve around a shared balance of energy, space, and emotional depth, creating a continuous sonic flow.

The journey opens with Cyberlife, delivering a dark, soft introduction, a slowed-down break with percussive undertones, perfect for easing into the immersion. The energy builds with Jafadan, driven by a dub groove and resonant toms, gradually adding depth to the sonic material. Hohe continues the ascent with a tribal, textured track, built on repetition and vibration in an organic loop with hypnotic tension. Mersel pushes the narrative into an analog and psychedelic dimension, with massive basses and expansive synths. Solarythm steps in with a faster tempo and granular, trancy layers, where heavy bass intertwines with a hypnotic melody. Fonzo shifts the journey into a sci-fi universe, combining break rhythms and dissonant synths to create an evolving, kinetic soundscape. The duo Sublife (Sub Accent and Cyberlife) delivers percussive, introspective techno, enriched with airy pads and breathing analog textures. Yunze Ou leads the descent into the final stretch with a slow, melodic track, deeply rooted in deep sensibilities. The compilation closes with an ambient, cinematic track by 矯激 [Radical], whose deep basses open a space of suspension, somewhere between sci-fi and dreamlike reverie.

After collaborating with Answer Code Request on Delsin early 2024, Amotik now strengthens the relationship with a first solo EP for the Amsterdam based label. Delsin is known for working the sweet spot in between emotive electronica and dancefloor functionality, and it feels like the perfect place for Amotik’s new EP ‘Raat’. After two in as many years, low-key German producer Yør returns to similarly low key Dutch imprint Purple Maze for his third full outing on the label in the form of the 'Sublimation EP'. Across the four tracks Yør continues to explore the same frayed and decayed, abstract electronics as he has in the past, with distant kins like Kassem Mosse and Morphosis still resonating.

The opener and title track is an intense and moody, nerve jangling affair where huge searching synths pan in the background of grinding drums and dense percussive clatter before 'Gravity', with its heavyweight and churning drums, trudges on through sonic scuzz and lo-fi blizzards as a backlit melody keeps things from growing all too dark and abstract.

The many different contrasting surfaces and counterpointed moods make Yør’s sounds as arresting as they are. The dystopian, tortured industrial funk of 'Parallels' with its slapping claps and decaying percussive lines are proof of that, where through chaos comes beautiful order.

Closer 'Trust' holds its head a little higher, more spiralling synths and bleepy fax machines tones add a sense that the apocalypse is coming and machines will take over, but there’s enough organic beauty in the deeply hidden melodies to keep the track from being all too hostile.

Seventeen years after it's first release, Delsin is soon to hit the landmark catalog number of 100. Truth is, taking into account choice re-issues and specials such as the recent house series, there have already been scores more than 100 releases. Nevertheless, in that time the Dutch label has become synonymous with a wide range of timeless sounds from house to techno to dub to electronica, nurturing and championing some of the most respect names in the scene.

To mark the occasion, the label is to release five new various artist EPs throughout the rest of the year. Besides a special collector's box edition, all EPs will be offered separately. All fifteen tracks will also be compiled onto one CD.

“After many different life cycles, with this compilation I try a bit to go back to the core of Delsin, to showcase more soulful but still raw techno sounds from a selection of key artists who best represent the label,” says label boss Marsel Delsin. “The tracks are all individual offerings but are tied together with the common themes of the label, and as a compilation will paint a nice overall picture.”

The five EPs will contain tracks from newbies and old favourites alike, including Sawlin and Delta Funktionen, John Beltran and Conforce, Redshape and Herva, Ross 154 and Mike Dehnert and more. The first – like all of them – features three tracks, one each from Gerry Read, Unbroken Dub and Claro Intelecto.

Its Manchester’s Claro Intelecto who goes first with 'Fighting The Blind Man', a typically widescreen and atmospheric cut with rich but grainy pads, warm techno pulses underneath and plenty of expertly design synths gurgling in the foreground.

New school house hero Gerry Read then offers a typically rough jam, 'Granny Bag'. A melange of sandy hits, smeared synths and hunched kick drums, it might be one of his deepest cuts yet before Siberian producer Unbroken Dub then layers warm pads on rolling, buried deep kick drums and has all sorts of analogue sci-fi lines racing across their face.

As has done Delsin itself over the years, this special series of releases looks to join the dots between the past, present and future of techno.
