A tribute to the mad Italians in Etnica and Pleiadians. This mix contains - in my opinion - some of the finest moments in goa and psychedelic trance. Features tracks from Alien Protein, I.F.O., Live in Athens 1996 (best of unreleased CD) and compilations such as First Flight and The Independent Trance Revival.

Our newest Lovecast comes from no one else than our most recent Love-resident from Maastricht, the all entangling, genre dismantling @octopusgarden-peu. This wonderful living being has embraced (remember that Kraken-scene from Pirates of Caribbean?) Limburg’s electronic music scene with joy, rigor and dedication, which is why we could not be happier to give her a platform beyond the region’s borders. With more styles than tentacles (ranging from Tech-house over Acid to atmospheric minimal and even occasionally Goa), this mix as well as this beautiful lady will make you dance in circles until you will feel like a calamari.

This week's mix comes from Tbilisi. As a resident of Bassiani, Kvanchi provides the listener with a snapshot of what one could expect during a night at Horoom - the experimental/house orientated room of Tbilisi's most famous club. There is a clear deep house focus through this mix, a timeless sound that has provided us at Mantissa with the perfect soundtrack to the suddenly sunny weather.

Kvanchi also provides a first-hand insight into nightlife in Tbilisi and life as a resident and label manager at Bassiani with this wonderful interview he did for us.

"Ben Buitendijk behoort tot een nieuwe lichting Nederlandse techno artiesten waar op het moment alle ogen op gericht zijn. De Rotterdammer trok met zijn eerste releases op Mosaic en Field Records veel aandacht met zijn puristische kijk op techno. Hij deelde EP’s met Voiski, Matrixxman en Acronym, en zijn tracks worden recentelijk opgepakt door de grootste dj’s in het circuit. Voor ons nam Ben een bijzonder warme vinyl-only mix op. In deze podcast horen we de perfectionistische dj meerdere keren speels oversteken tussen minimalistische deep house en techno. De verfrissende wijze waarop hij de twee stijlen naadloos op elkaar aan laat sluiten zorgt voor een spannende dynamiek, waarin de hypnotische ritmes keihard binnenkomen en de emotionele melodieën er tussenuit springen als warme baden of thuiskomen voor Kerst. Efdemin has all but perfected his deep, expertly reduced take on house and techno. The German artist has mastered his form over the course of numerous 12”s on various labels, including three albums on Dial Records. They are intricate, mind bending affairs that take you in on yourself and constantly explore new ground. His hybrid mix CD on his own Naïf imprint and Curle last year was another career high point, and recently he has turned himself towards experimental and microtonal composition with yet more fascinating results. February 2019 will see Ostgut Ton release New Atlantis, his latest album and one inspired by Francis Bacon’s unfinished 17th century novel of the same name. Promising to fuse his left-of-centre take on dance music with a new found passion for experimental sound art, it’s the latest chapter in a fascinating artistic story. 

His podcast for us is a decidedly club-focussed mix, featuring the sort of warped synths and underlapping grooves you would expect of the man. There are multi-layered tracks of percussion, sound design and stringy rhythms to start, then things slip into long, draw out passages of tunnel vision techno before the drums begin to hit harder to carry you home. At times playful, at others deadly serious, it sums up the career of Efdemin perfectly.
