Sonopoem by IB: Accumulation | Accumulazione

'At night the voices of the volcanic hills are heard.
Echoes of ancient eruptions & submarine lava accumulations.
Rhyolite, trachyte and latite rocks emerged dome-shaped & still they murmur.
Listen to the trapped, the absent, the missing, the disappeared.
Fossil ghosts resist underground, lying in layers over layers.
They cohabit & belong to this land despite centuries of colonisation.
Old language buried in the soil & lost to the seas that used to home its tone.
In the folds of time, the weight of history piles up.
I walk across the crops.  
I am not sure anymore which steps are mine, whose bones these are.
Am i also down there, unseen, folded, hidden? 
How many are down there, unseen, folded, forgotten?
This seasonal blues already hits & it’s still cold outside.

La notte si sentono le voci dei colli vulcanici.
Echi di eruzioni antiche e accumulazioni laviche sottomarine.
Rioliti, trachiti e latiti emerse a forma conica che ancora mormorano.
Ascolta ciò che è intrappolato, assente, mancante, scomparso.
Fantasmi fossili resistono sottosuolo, giacciono in strati sovra strati.
Coabitano e appartengono a questa terra nonostante secoli di colonizzazione.
Linguaggio antico sepolto nel terreno e perduto nei mari che ne ospitavano il suono.
Nelle pieghe del tempo, il peso della storia ammassa. 
Cammino tra le coltivazioni.
Non sono più sicura di quali passi siano i miei, di chi siano queste ossa.
Sono anch’io là sotto, non vista, ripiegata, nascosta?
Quanti sono là sotto, non visti, ripiegati, dimenticati?
Questa depressione stagionale già colpisce e fuori fa ancora freddo.

'A muntagna* speaks, at Phlegraean Fields the volcanic caldera quakes.
Solfatara’s energy enlivens the air & breathes centuries.
Vesuvius is so green & magnetic, feeling longing dint’ e ven*.
The gentle tops call to mind the Euganean Hills. 
Quiescent wound & an afterness teeming at the foot.
Moving the city’s buzzing, o mare*.
A flare in the distance as a sun rising tired & disheartened.
Is it you Parthenope? Perpetual drowning, your body washed ashore upside down.
The long cry, the dirge emerging & merging with heat dying in the throat.

A muntagna* parla, ai Campi Flegrei la caldera vulcanica trema.
L’energia della solfatara anima l’aria e respira secoli.
Il Vesuvio è così verde e magnetico, nostalgico sentire dint’ e ven*.
Le cime gentili ricordano i Colli Euganei.
Ferita quiescente e un dopo che brulica alle pendici.
Commovente il pulsare della città, o mare*.
Un bagliore lontano come un sole che sorge stanco e amareggiato.
Sei tu Partenope? Affogare perpetuo, il tuo corpo riportato a riva rovesciato.
Il pianto lungo, la nenia che emerge e si mescola al calore che muore nella gola.'

A Muntagna

This is a conversation, taken as a field recording, with sound Artist, radio producer and poet Marjorie Van Halteren.

Marjorie Van Halteren was born in Detroit, Michigan, graduating from the University of Michigan, and later earning an MA in performance from NYU. She lived in New York for the first part of her adult life, where she was a radio producer as an independent and for WNYC New York Public Radio. She then relocated to Northern France where she still lives.

She shared in three Peabody Awards for her work in creative documentary and live radio, and as the Artistic Director of The Radio Stage, she commissioned and produced a dozen original plays from New York playwrights. Her work has appeared on BBC Radio 3 and 4, WDR, Radio Netherlands, NPR and Studio 360 in the US, Radiophrenia. Also she has been professor of music and technology, and she is bird watcher and nature recordist. She lives in Lille (France).

Conversation with Sound Artist, Radio Producer and Poet Marjorie Van Halteren

I am a twice-published novelist who writes stories, novels, and poems. My favorite songs have always been those with lyrics that have a deep meaning. In this EP, I worked with Suno to create music for seven of my poems (2 in English and 5 in Turkish). I hope you cherish these songs and lyrics as much as I do.
