This track fused together from several different seeds.  The first was discovering a shoegaze preset within the Logic Pro pedalboard effects.  The second were some lyrical ideas about the eternal fight between Light and Dark.  In the beginning, there was darkness, and when the light finally burns out, it will be dark again, so maybe The Darkness is stronger?  I hope not.  Also a metaphor for the struggle of  ignoring the dogs of doubt and maintaining a positive outlook.   The lyrics came very quickly and even suggested their own tune, to which I added simple DAW guitar part . 

Everything came together with some potential Cure / Slowdive vibes, but this track took the most time and effort, trying to get the balance right with the multi-tracked vocals, guitar, and drum and bass.  This version - "Spark - Light Mix" -  is the second version.  "Spark - Dark Mix" ( track #7 of this album), is the original, but despite my enthusiasm for it, it seemed to lose listener interest when I previewed it, taking too long to reach the climaxes.  I am grateful for this feedback because it pushed me to figure out how to clean up the mix and add more of a poppy punch, something that grabs the listener early on.  Once I had this version somewhat locked down,  I applied some of the principles  to the Dark Mix to get it cleaned up and decided I wanted to keep both versions. This was originally going to be the opening track of the album but I felt "Attack!" set a better tone as the intro.
