Introducing @o_matzerath

'This is 74 minutes of music, mixed and recorded in my home and played on two turntables.
For the past couple of years, I have been learning vinyl mixing, and I’m beginning to feel a level of control and understanding that makes me feel comfortable sharing my efforts.
One thing that I’m consciously aware of when selecting and mixing, is to find the right balance between the repetitive and monotonous aspect of the music on one hand, and the wide variety in the different expressions and aesthetics of techno music on the other. If there is too little variation, it gets boring, and if there is too much variation, it loses that hypnotic drive that is most important for me. I often find it useful to think of DJ sets as narratives. As story-telling. You want things to happen, you know? You want to go to different places and experience different sensations. Suspense, drama, relief, emotions – things like that.

Another thing that I consider key to developing my practice is learning to do proper transitions. Long smooth blends, quick cuts, all of that - I want to learn to mix in all those ways, so I can put the right technique to use when it’s needed. I like when an artist is consciously
manoeuvering between different ways of mixing – it makes it more exciting and less predictable to listen to.

Then there is the aspect of timing. Oh, timing is everything! Part of the timing thing is sort of intuitive, but a big part of it is about getting to know your tracks, memorizing them. This is a challenge for any DJ, but particularly for vinyl DJs, since there is no waveform representation of the track to guide you, no cue points, etc. Just to point this out – I’m not saying that I am particularly good at any of the above-mentioned aspects of DJing – in fact, I’m a total amateur – but these are some of the things that I’m trying to develop and improve in my work.

- - - - HISTORY ABOUT BEARSERK - - - - 
This fury, which was called BEARSERK, occurred not only in the heat of Scandinavia, but also during working hours. Men who were thus seized performed things which otherwise seemed impossible for human power. This condition is said to have begun with shivering, chattering of the teeth, and chill in the body, and then the face swelled and changed its colour. With this was connected a great hot-headedness, which at last gave over into a great rage, under which they howled as wild animals, bit the edge of their shields, and cut down everything they met without discriminating between friend or foe. When this condition ceased, a great dulling of the mind and feebleness followed, which could last for one or several days.

Beryll is a Berlin-based DJ whose sound weaves together the deep, dubby, and hypnotic elements of Techno and House. With an instinct for rhythm and a passion for creating tension and release, her sets move between driving grooves and subtle, trippy textures.

Inspired by the transformative nature of the Chrysoberyl gemstone, her artist name reflects her approach to music—shaping emotions, energies, and moments on the dancefloor. Through carefully curated selections and fluid transitions, Beryll builds a journey that goes into mind and body.

Having played at clubs like Sisyphos, Else, Golden Gate, and beyond, she continues to carve her own path, bringing an intuitive and captivating energy to every set.
