Cor.ece is a whole vibe. The LA-based vocalist and songwriter recently exploded onto the scene through an incendiary collaboration with Honey Dijon on her Defected singles “Unleash” and “Work,” and now Cor.ece (pronounced COR-REESE) delivers his own unique musical statement with his solo debut on RNT, the ‘Dance To Keep From Crying EP.’

Produced by JKriv, the lead-off single ‘Possibly Impossible (feat. Dave Giles II)’ fuses airy and expansive vocal soundscapes with a certifiably infectious hook, shows Cor.ece’s dynamism as a performer and songwriter. Producer/Muso extraordinaire Crackazat takes the tune into deep, jazzy hypnotic territory with a standout remix that showcases the song in a completely different light.

"Reach Out" was one of many killer cuts on Sean's debut album released late last year. Now Atjazz gives the track an energetic bumpin’ remix full of swingy house energy.
 
Sean's Paradise edit makes more use of the Mr Fingers type techy riff and vocal refrain from the second half of the song, whilst his Extended original is in the timeless deep vocal house territory which we love him for.

Detroit Rising is a new musical collective that combines highly sought after young writers and musicians with the current and original members of legendary funk band Parliament-Funkadelic. 

The original version of 'Little Bit' features Gabe Gonzalez - drums (P-funk, Bernie Worrell), Kern Brantley - bass, (Lady Gaga, Mary J Blige), Dominie Deporres - guitar (Theo Parrish).

Taking a break from their extensive touring schedule, the collective have spent time in the studio creating a hybrid jazz-funk album titled ‘A Cosmic Jazz Funk Adventure’.

These are the first remixes from the album and Sean McCabe works the original live elements and Martez’s vocals into his trademark deep and soulful house sound. Included here is Sean’s vocal mix, a Dub and a bonus Moody Remix.

Tortured Soul's TSTC Records presents "Choice Cuts," a compilation of timeless classics from Cooly's Hot Box!

Formed in New York City's thriving acid jazz scene during the 1990s by Tortured Soul's lead singer and drummer, John-Christian Urich, and renown soul singer Angela Johnson, Cooly's Hot Box burst onto the scene with with "Don't Throw My Love Around," featured on the first Giant Steps compilation released by London's Downtown Records.  The song was later sampled for the main riff in Armand Van Helden's "Funk Phenomena," which rose to #1 on the Canadanian RPM Dance Chart and #38 on the UK Singles Chart in 1996.  The band soon found themselves opening for the likes of B.B. King, A Tribe Called Quest, Zapp, The Neville Brothers, Guru, and India.Arie.  After a series of singles and remixes, Cooly's Hot Box released two full-length albums, "Take It," and "Don't Be Afraid: Get On," to audience and critic rave reviews.

Cooly's Hot Box formed the launch pad for the careers of Urich and Johnson, with Urich going on to form seminal live house act, Tortured Soul, and working with producers like Roger Sanchez and DJ Spinna and performing many hundreds of concerts worldwide.  Johnson has since enjoyed international success as a solo artist and composer, releasing several albums and singles, and writing chart-topping hits for artists like Double (Japan).

Cooly's Hot Box - Lose Your Friends

Right place, right time. It's an old cliché, but it's one that's been the definition of Dennis Ferrer's musical career. Just as the dance music world was heading into the world of afro-centric house, Ferrer was there. And then, when it began to embrace the mix of tech and soul, Ferrer was there again, leading the way with his impeccable productions. As Ferrer goes, it seems, so does electronic music. And, as someone who's never content to do the same thing twice, it's clear that he'll be staying on top for years to come.

Ferrer burst back into the consciousness of most dance music heads with the release of "Sandcastles," (Ibadan) his collaboration with Jerome Sydenham in 2003. But, to his credit, Ferrer didn't simply repeat the formula afterwards. He has continued to push a variety of genres all at once. It's clear that Ferrer isn't content to rest on his laurels: he's too busy dreaming up new ways to shock and delight audiences.

In the mid-90’s, Ferrer was crafting techno records as Morph and then had success in the Afro and gospel house scenes with releases via his Sfere label, an imprint he began alongside Kerri Chandler. But it's this past work that gives his new productions such resonance: unlike many of this house peers, Ferrer's techno experience has given him an edge that you can hear in his recent work.

"Son of Raw," (Ibadan) "Church Lady," (Defected) "Underground Is My Home," (King Street Sounds), "Touched the Sky" (King Street Sounds), “Transitions” (King Street Sounds), “P 2 Da J” (Defected),  “Sinfonia Della Notte” (Strictly Rhythm), “Hey Hey” (Objektivity), “Red Room” (Objektivity), “Underground” Nick Curly – Dennis Ferrer Remix (Defected), to name a few, have all been huge dance floor anthems and all show a different side of the Ferrer personality as well as his impressive range as producer and remixer.

Ferrer has brought his ‘anything goes’ approach to his label, Objektivity.  Celebrating its 8th anniversary in 2014, the imprint has thus far focused itself on vocals, featuring often unlikely turns from indie heroes like Ane Brun and Télépopmusik. Low slung and deep, Objektivity is a cutting-edge label in touch with its time, putting a uniquely American spin on the deep house revival that is currently making waves in Europe. Objektivity is a living, breathing thing - one that's set to drop bombs on the dance floor for years to come.

While Ferrer closes out 2013 with “Mind Ur Step” (Defected), “Mind Ur Dub” (Objektivity) and a remix of Coyu - “Salvation” (Noir Music), the best is yet to come. With a deep knowledge of the past and a constant push for the future, Ferrer remains one of the true greats of house music - a leader and innovator whose enjoying the buzz around him but keeping on pushing the limits.
