Steve Reich & Coldcut "Music for 18 Musicians (Maceo Plex Remix)"

I composed this work in January of 2013 for the Mars Hill College Saxophone Quartet. The MHC Sax Quartet premiered it April 20, 2013 during the Mars Hill New Music Festival. 
The hall was in complete darkness. Each performer began playing in a different corner of the concert hall surrounding the audience.  Slowly each performer began moving to the front of the hall. When they played the last chord the lights quickly filled the hall.

Quartet for El Anatsui was inspired by the artwork of the Ghanaian artist, El Anatsui. He creates wonderful sheets of metal, wood and cloth that are hung on walls or stand alone on the floor. Each time one of his sculptures are presented at a museum they are presented differently. Which inspired me to write this piece which can be played differently at every performance.

"Suffer the Bitches" (The REMIX) This is the 1 year anniversary REMIX of what was actually the very first song I produced specifically for public consumption. "Suffer the Bitches", originally released 12/15/2013 here on SoundCloud was inspired by and named for a line delivered by Jane Levy's character on ABC's "Suburgatory" on their Halloween 2012 episode "The Witch of East Chatswin".&#13;

All that trivia aside, the original version of this song really took off when we first released it back in December of 2012. It was picked up by virtually every music blog one can think of, and is still getting a lot of plays to this day on internet radio. Not to mention it's THE most played track here on my SoundCloud page to date. And I suspect it'll hold that record for some time. &#13;

For this REMIX we have enhanced the drums and bass, and also remixed the guitar parts by spreading them out a bit more. Basically with this remix we're using what we know now, with the equipment we have now to remix a song that was originally done when we didn't know as much and our equipment was a bit more primitive. &#13;

I composed this piece in the summer of 2012. I had heard a few open instrumentation works by different composers and I felt i should give it at try.

Open Piece No. 1 was premiered by the Central Michigan University New Music Ensemble December 9, 2012 in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. 

I will post the names of each performer when I receive them.  They did a fine job.

This compilation was made by beautiful humans from all around the world. It is a collection of 11 varied tracks. It is noisy, experimental, sometimes brutal, with choir, different languages, vocals, piano and drums... While the tracks are all different, they are united by the fight against domestic violence.

As you may know, this pandemic is a nightmare for women facing domestic and sexual abuse. In many situations they have been forced into lockdown with their abuser. 

The money raised on Bandcamp will go to La Fédération Nationale Solidarité Femmes, a French charity helping women in distress. Please consider buying this release if you appreciate it and spread the word about the current situation. 

If you or someone you know is facing violence, despite how hard and impossible it might feel, help is out there and it is possible to escape the situation you're in. 
YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Take care of yourself and your loved ones.

Tendre Ael - Sangsue

Dennis DeSantis is a composer, sound designer, author, and percussionist. He received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Eastman School of Music. His electronic music appears on labels such as Ghostly, Global Underground, Cocoon and Kanzleramt, and he has performed throughout North America, Europe, and Japan.

Recent highlights include commissions from the Whitney Museum, the Staatsoper Stuttgart and Carnegie Hall.

DeSantis is the Head of Music Learning for Ableton, and previously worked as a sound designer for Native Instruments.
