“transported anthrophonies” was played in ZKM | Zentrum für Kunst und Medien’s Next Generation Festival June 5th - 8th, 2024. Featured in concert I, 5:00pm via HfG/ Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe

Anthrophony relates to any sounds produced by human beings or their creations. 'trans' in this context is refers ro transhemispheric transmissions across space through time. Many sounds from public transport. Traversing sounds collected as reflections of their environments and as signifyers of histories, demographics, socio-economics, and state practices.

This work is a juxtaposition of processed field recordings of Woodstock, Cape Town and particularly Neükolln, Berlin. Moments of the passing drums of a Turkish wedding procession meeting the brass of the Kaapse Klopse, to the Call to Prayer, and children singing on St Matin’s Day, to the beeps of the Bahns and resonant tones of the every-blaring sirens and church bells. 

When what was once alien becomes familiar, we stop actively listening and merely hear the sounds in a space. A kind of reconstruction to shift from hearing to active listening.

Terry Waite was taken hostage in Beirut in the late 1980s, before ISIS, before smartphones, before the Internet as we know it. He endured a mock execution during the first year of his five-year captivity, which was spent mostly in solitary confinement. Years later, during a Q&A session, he was asked to identify the main thing he had learned from his ordeal. The answer, came as a shock—it was not the excruciatingly hard-won appreciation for life and loved ones that one expects to hear. “Contemporary humanity,” declared Waite, “has lost the ability to engage in productive solitude.”

"Content" is the 9th album of the US based producer Ricardo Donoso.

Folk music from another dimension by singular artist Kaboom Karavan and his new album "The Log and the Leeway", following a 6 year journey of personal exploration and drastic change. 

"The Log and the Leeway" is released 17th of July 2020 and features amongst others a bizarre cover painting by John Lurie (of The Lounge Lizards). It also comes with a 16 page booklet of musical illustrations by Walter Doogh & Erik K Skodvin that more or less connects and confuses the stories behind the record.

Prairie is the project of multi-instrumentalist and producer Marc Jacobs, hailing from Brussels with roots in The Netherlands. On stage, Prairie plays with two or three musicians and together they re-create a free association of musical ideas and atmospheres. Prairie has played in selected venues and festivals across Europe  and for instance toured with Apparat.

“And the Bird Said: Cut Me Open and Sing Me” is the second full length album on Denovali Records.

This album was inspired by the silence of the birds, by the tone between a mother and her daughter, by the Sandsnipe twins, by constant wailing sirens, by the memory of a Vangelis track. Composed in the city, in his studio Les Lacs and in the mountains of the French Cévennes, Jacobs integrates his various recording locations into his magnificent sound design. By using various recording techniques, analog gear, guitar pedals, synths, amps and human voices, “And the Bird Said: Cut Me Open and Sing Me” creates a fountain of sound layers which coalesce to synthetic and noise infused manipulations, dramatic crescendos and subtle field recordings.

Jacobs focuses on melodies, sometimes hidden melodies, or straight out melodies that took him back to various musical influences, current ones but also from his past, lurking into pop and loving imperfection. The lyrics of "Cut me Open" are the spine of the record, the scenario where various species of birds lead the way, and where each track is a short chapter of the flight.

Jacobs once again showcases a deep sensitivity to narrative and rich cinematic textures by creating a technicolor soundtrack.
