A great philosopher (Samuel Johnson, not Ebeneezer Goode) once wrote… “our brightest blazes of gladness are commonly kindled by unexpected sparks”. While it would be a stretch to suggest the Drumcode artist roster are closet philosophy fans, once one begins to unravel the tale that led to Jel Ford remixing the 2012 Alan Fitzpatrick hit ‘For An Endless Night’ and it is impossible to escape the unexpected enterprise and spirit of surprise that are at the heart of this exciting collaboration. 

As fans of Adam Beyer’s label will testify, the two Drumcode names have more in common than just a label stable, they also share common ground with the peak-time melodic sound that has delivered many of the labels most memorable output. Ford being a much more recent addition than Fitzpatrick, whose history with the seminal Swedish imprint stretches back to 2009, however Ford’s history within techno goes back even further having released multiple EP’s through the early noughties on vintage UK techno labels including Dave Angel’s Rotation Records, Billy Nasty’s Tortured Records, Primate Recordings and Ford’s own Jericho imprint. 

It is within this shared passion for uplifting synths and big room melodies that the ‘unexpected spark’ of creativity that led to Ford remixing Fitzpatrick can be found. An long-time admirer of Fitzpatrick’s work, Ford had developed an idea for his alternative version and secretly worked on the remix long before any discussion of the project had taken place. Once given the draft version, Fitzpatrick immediately endorsed the remix, excited to have an updated version to breath new life into what had become a familiar staple of his sets for the past two years. Parts were swapped and the end result being the barnstorming end-of-night monster presented here. A track that will be familiar with many having been the subject of much social-media furor since it first surfaced back in Autumn 2014.

This typically bombastic three-tracker of explosive, crowd-moving techno opens with ‘U Said U’. A massively hyped tracks that has been the subject of huge fan-demand since it first featured on Beyer’s Drumcode Radio in January. However, ’Love Siren’ will battle it out for the most attention from punters, packed with all the power and punch required to knock over festival crowds as it systematically builds and drops this is one for the big open air stages. ‘Rumours’ wraps things up in slightly more understated but non-the-less effective fashion with its drawn out, tension building intro mushrooming into a crescendo of sleazy chords and sparking melodies.

<p>It&#8217;s time for Sasha Carassi&#8217;s &#8220;Echoes&#8221; from a few months ago to receive remix treatment, and Skober&#8217;s interpretation is up first and focuses on the melodic elements of the Original but cleverly adds moody synths which add to the overall epicness of the affair, especially in the grandiose breakdown. Layton Giordani is up next with his trademarked shadowy sound and impeccable arrangement, offering yet another angle of attack. Last but not least are Loco &amp; Jam dubbing things out with bursts of references to the original in key moments, while maintaining a rocksteady vibe sprinkled with discordant stabs.</p>

With the opening track providing an atmospheric techno masterpiece, dubspeeka’s production ability shines through with a staccato synth melody providing a unique listening experience. Staying true to the melodic techno sound that has propelled dubspeeka to the forefront of the global underground music stage, K354 and K375 showcases his ability to conjure varying sounds with chilling vocal samples and distorted percussion sounding out through each production respectively. With dubspeeka’s prominence within the techno world flourishing faster than any other artist within the field, ‘Unfriended’ makes yet another decisive point in this eclectic artists career.

Out with their third EP of 2016, this August Monkey Safari will release 'Boris,' with remixes by Guy Mantzur and Victor Ruiz, showing the world once again that these guys aren't messing around. 'Boris' is the follow up to their successful mega-EP, 'Bernstein,' released in June, with remixes by John Digweed & Nick Muir and UNER. Their next four-track EP shows the brothers' more serious, grownup side, taking new risks with no vocals, utilizing empty spaces and slower buildups. 'Boris' showcases proper club music: dark and sweaty Tech House with a hypnotic twist.
In the first track of the EP, self-titled "Boris," Sven and Lars go even deeper into their trance trajectory bridging on the darker side of Techno. The second track, "Dodge," takes listeners on a mystical journey playing with deep ambient sounds and a drop that makes your heart speed up. Tel Aviv-based producer Guy Mantzur (Kompakt / Bedrock / Diynamic) drops his hypnotic and seductive remix of "Boris," impossible not to get lost in. Additionally, Brazilian producer Victor Ruiz’s up-beat and complex remix of "Dodge" is not to be missed. Monkey Safari's dedication to their craft is catching the attention of industry dignitaries and fans alike with their consistent releases and non-stop international touring. We look forward to seeing what they come out with next!

Dead End Thrills (Patrice Bäumel Remix)

The fourth EP from Manjumasi comes by way of another San Franciscan, Ben Engelberg aka Bengal. As with the previous release, this too marks the debut of a new artistic alias from a well-versed producer. Formerly releasing as BNZO on such labels as VIVa Music and Trapez LTD, Ben's highly compelling tech house grooves haven't gone unnoticed, garnering attention from the likes of major players like Steve Lawler and Luciano. After a few years break from regular releases, Ben has honed his chops and now re-emerges as Bengal. His new project showcases a different side of his character and an enhanced level of musicality. The three originals on this EP are luscious and deep, texturally rich tracks. Emotive and enchanting, melodic and mysterious. At the same time, they are driven by punchy percussive rhythms that lay a sturdy anchor on the dancefloor, a clear testament to Ben's well-honed experience delivering serious grooves.

First up on remix duty is Swiss maestro Dachshund, who has turned up the energy on Masada and delivered an oustanding club remix, combining his trademark stabby synth motifs with the more subtle melodic elements of the original - a fine pairing of strength and softness. Rounding things out is a re-interpretation of Fractal Dust by Berlin mainstay MUUI. His remix takes the original into an even deeper space, expansive sonic realms washed over with beautiful pads and melodic brushtrokes.
