Here is a somewhat musical demonstration of the Amsynth 8109 eurorack filter clone of the VCF in the Jupiter 8. Oscillators come from the Macbeth Micromac and because I lack an extra VCA I route the jp3 output back into the micromac (but the filter is completely open with zero resonance, so the added effect on the signal path is almost negligent). I add a little BBD delay to taste in some parts of the demo to give an idea of what it sounds like in a more song-oriented musical context. This is not an extensive demo, but it does show a few things, such as the subtle difference between 12db  and 24db settings, high and low resonance, etc.

High Summer. Sun is shining and the Bordello is open to newcomers, the latest being Slovenia’s Ichisan. After EPs on Internasjonal and Catune amongst others, he delivers via Bordello A Parigi a 12” that bulldozes barriers, Metamundas seamlessly slips between electro disco, braindance acid and gilded funk. Writhing 303 jerks are tempered by warm-hearted key changes for the title track, patterns ducking into playful frolics and lush deeps. And this desire to toy with convention is what characterises the EP. Bitter chords are sugared, machine grooves with nods to the dancefloors of the 70s, spaceflights with undertones of Chicago ; Ichisan brings all together in a 12” that is as unique as it is addictive, following Prins Thomas and Todd Terje's Path.

Coyote deliver a standalone EP for Clandestino’s second release with the brooding, acidic “Fight The Future” and summery live jam “Engineered Garments”. Fight The Future here premiered takes us on a ride through the club. Tweaking 303’s and bells weave their way round a dynamic 808 rhythm track while the dubbed out FX and melancholic spacey keys reign in the tension, eventually swelling and breaking over a subtle voice pad. Chida takes things into more late night territory; intensifying the driving groove as the 303’s build over a crescendo of thunderous FX sublimely rooted by a deeply cool bass-line.
On the flip side Engineered Garments has live drums and bass hung together with Cuban congas, beachside shakers and slaps & claps while African marimbas dance atop the poppy piano hook. The flecked electric guitar coupling with the pulsing lead and Linn drum hits gel into super crisp production perfect for balmy, outside dancing. Selvy goes for a stripped back rework; the drums and bass coming to the fore as the marimbas are brightened yet sparing allowing the leads to cut through and deliver a polished heads down but hands up dance-floor soaked workout.

For the past two years, we have been playing almost every production by Matthew Dekay & Lee Burridge. Now we're very happy to welcome both of them on Innervisions IV38.
