This October will see Mexico City’s leading CVMR imprint release the ‘Lip Reading’ EP from Soul Of Hex, backed with two remixes from Larry Heard aka Mr. Fingers, and two more courtesy of Vin Sol and Ny*Ak.

Tijuana, Mexico based artists 4004 & Sebastien Vornhaus launch their exciting new project (with guest appearances by Berlin-based Albert Vogt), entitled Soul Of Hex. Between them the duo can boast material on the likes of MCDE, Quintessentials and their own Vicario Musique, the new project which has already seen huge support from Larry Heard (leading to the remixes on this package), is a multi-instrumentalist live and
visual show showcasing their newly formed, sophisticated house sound.

Kicking things off is the original mix of ‘Lip Reading’ from Soul Of Hex, a gritty, low-slung house number employing Juno bass hooks, warm blossoming pad melodies and bumpy organic percussion to form the hypnotic and understated opening cut.

Following are the two mixes from House veteran Larry Heard aka Mr. Fingers, the first of which Heard’s ‘Jazzy Dub Remix’, showcases the striking production style that he’s so highly praised for, as the name would suggest embracing a jazz-tinged aesthetic, while retaining the warmth and charm of the original track. Following is the second offering from Heard, the ‘Midnight Remix’, taking on a darker, more atmospheric aesthetic with this mix bringing the cosseting melodies and rugged bass to forefront.

Closing the release is two more takes on ‘Lip Reading’, first up is the Vin Sol Remix, which strips things back to a percussive led state, bringing organic rhythms into prominence while the soft pads flutter away in the depths of the background. Ny*Ak then rounds things off with this interpretation, dropping the tempo and generating a
rawer edge with the production, as loosely programmed drums and evolving jazz licks intricately flourish over the track’s seven and a half minute duration.

Foremost international techno outlet Drumcode is delighted to announce the release of its next full-length album, ‘Satellite’, by enduring Italian techno talent Sam Paganini.

Though he has been active since the mid nineties, recent years have been hugely successful for Sam, with searing techno EPs coming on revered labels such as Riche Hawtin’s Plus8, Sven Vath’s Cocoon and of course, Adam Beyer’s Drumcode. In his time he has been responsible for underground hits like ‘Zoe’, ‘Polyester’ and ‘Fire In My Arms’, all of which demonstrate his dynamic understanding of sexy, dark and hypnotic techno grooves and at the same time have earned him plenty of great Beatport chart positions as well as respect from the best in the game.

Incredibly, ‘Satellite’ is Sam’s first full-length album. Informed by his DJ gigs at legendary places like Berghain in Berlin and Cielo in New York, the album starts with a dystopian bit of sonic scene setting, as if a space ship is charging up ready to take off.

From there it’s a case of getting straight down to business. ‘Another Chance’ is a spacey bit of cantering techno and ‘White’ is rooted in devastating kick drums and is riddled with serrated synth lines that build lots of great techno pressure. ‘Down’ is an undulating bit of funky techno complete with choice vocal flourishes and tracks like ‘Lotus’ are prime offerings from the deeper end of the scale.

No two tracks sound the same on Satellite: Sam is always teasing out a new bit of texture, nailing a slightly different vibe or exploring different amounts of light and dark throughout the course of this most excellent album. This is evidenced by diverse cuts like ‘Dusty’, ‘Toxic’ and ‘Rave’.

Despite ‘Satellite’ being Sam’s debut album, it showcases his seductive style in all its glory across 12 fantastic tracks that will leave you begging for more.

Derek & Tom c'est avant tout le projet de deux amis de longue date : Valentin, ingénieur en électronique, et Antoine, photographe. Si les prémices du duo commencent dès 2008, avec plusieurs collaborations ponctuelles dans divers projets, c'est au tout début de l'année 2014 que commence une collaboration plus ambitieuse ; la composition et l'enregistrement d'une douzaine de morceaux et l'élaboration d'un live. C'est ainsi que fin 2014, sur la scène du Drak Art de Grenoble, naquit véritablement l'entité Derek & Tom.

Les influences du groupe sont multiples, la passion du métal et de la musique classique de Valentin complète la passion d'Antoine pour le rock et les musiques électroniques. Tous deux partagent la même soif de découverte et de nouveauté, restant attentif à tous les courants et styles émergents, qui forment aussi la véritable inspiration du duo. 

Derek & Tom ne cherchent pas à correspondre à un style particulier, bien au contraire, chaque morceau est conçu à partir d'une inspiration particulière, à un moment particulier. Si la griffe du duo reste parfaitement identifiable, assurant lors des lives une continuité indéniable, la promenade entre les influences et univers divers produit un live progressif oscillant entre mélodies planantes et riffs saturés énervés, mélangeant l'allégresse ou la mélancolie à une certaine brutalité.
