Counter Culture – Biography

Counter Culture is the cutting-edge Psytrance project of Cape Town-born producer, mix engineer, and mastering artist Dwayne Lucas — formerly known as HOAX. Since its inception in 2015, Counter Culture has pushed the boundaries of high-energy Full-On Psytrance, seamlessly fusing driving basslines, electrifying drops, and immersive psychedelic FX with melodic and progressive elements.

Emerging during a pivotal era in the evolution of South Africa’s Psytrance sound, Counter Culture drew early inspiration from the genre’s pioneers, quickly developing a distinctive sonic identity. Known for precision-crafted production, the project delivers powerful, dynamic performances designed to ignite dancefloors worldwide.

The debut album, The X Factor (2015, Mechanik Records), earned critical recognition for its vibrant energy and innovative sound design. This was followed by the 2017 release of [A] Paradox on Nexus Media Records — a 10-track powerhouse that cemented Counter Culture’s reputation within the global Psytrance community.

Renowned for a prolific and consistent output, Counter Culture continues to evolve while staying true to its roots. The upcoming release, Fractalism (MMD Records), promises to deliver another immersive, high-impact sonic journey for Psytrance fans around the world.

Rubix Qube is Kieron Grieve. At 27, his Live act showcases some of the freshest ideas in the psy-scene today. From "Qubinomix" to "Dark Kontinent", his combination of twisted melodies, driving percussion and intelligent compisitions fuse into a genre-busting intense audio experience. He has Performed alongside Sunproject, Absolum, Skazi, Tron, Menog, Scorb, KoxBox, Lost + Found, Shift, Khopat, EMP and more. With an advanced diploma in Sound + Music, ranked top 30 on DJ mag SA >> and an insatiable mind, you can expect to hear some stellar music that makes you unexpect the expected ;)

Over a decade in the game, Jon Mesquita delivers powerful sets blending solid mixes, hypnotic atmospheres and deep psygressive energy. With global performances at top clubs and festivals, this Brazilian artist evolves his sound with every step of his journey.

Now diving into the darker realms of Progressive/Psy Techno, Jon redefines his project with the experience only time can bring.

"I think Belgium was the turning point…" says Adi. 
This working soul first encountered EDM in Belgium where he spent most of his early teens. Currently based in Israel, his musical roots go way back to the 90's and early 00's where he first started spinning the decks in India & Thailand and later on in South Africa. In 2005, Adi co-founded the notoriously known act Quantize. The project released a groundbreaking debut album at "Iboga" records which took the world by storm and still does till date.

In 2010 the birth of "D-Addiction" took place…A project that specializes on a new-age blend of Progressive Techno Trance. psychedelic atmosphere, heavy baselines served with top notch production. With future releases in top-notch labels, Adi is loaded with psychedelic dance-floor bangers that will be released in the near future. After touring the world from side to side and back n forth, Adi is ready go on the journey once again with his monstrous new output.

With years of DJ and production experience, a multitude of releases on a host of local and international labels, and a career as a studio engineer - Deliriant is a well-established artist in an ever-changing industry. Signed to Expo Records, Deliriant has performed at top parties all over South Africa, as well as a number of international festivals in Australia, Europe, Mexico and more, while his music has contributed to a wide range of number 1 releases on labels worldwide. His sets deliver an energy packed ride, riddled with dark atmospheres, intense breakdowns, clever drops, driving basslines, psychedelic leads and an always solid groove. With his top-notch production and intelligent arrangement, his music is powerful and driving, yet still provides the listener with a taste of clarity, streamlined minimalism, and a melodic feel.
