London techno label 199 returns with its first release of 2024, and the fifth in its now coveted ‘Exchange’ series. With support from the likes of Ben UFO, Laurent Garnier, Voigtmann, Ivan Smagghe, and LUXE on its previous editions, the series ascends into a heavier realm with its latest volume. 

The two-track EP marks a debut for Ukrainian producer Vitya Payalnik, who serves up a darkly whimsical take on bass-heavy electro house on the B-side, while the A is handled with an assured swagger by Jovak, who returns for his second consecutive release with 199.

The symbol on side A is a more than 3000y old Chinese letter signifying "dance", probably a shamanic dance for the gods or a rain dance.
The illustrations on side B are both from France, the menhir is the "Dame de Saint Sernin" and the bison "de la Madeleine".
Picture in the background was taken in Yakushima, a southern island in Japan that is the model for Gibli's Princess Mononoke

Over the years, visionary artist Pilot Waves has built an extensive archive of tracks, a hidden treasure trove that has finally begun to surface through a series of carefully curated releases. The work on Atlas embodies a process of digital archeology dedicated to preserving the original recordings and arrangements. Rather than reinterpreting the material to suit contemporary trends, the project seeks to honor the inspirations and motivations of Pilot Waves’ earlier self, offering an authentic window into the creative moments that shaped these tracks.

In Atlas, time becomes fluid. Each composition captures the essence of its origin - precise, raw, and unfiltered - while standing as a timeless artifact of artistic evolution.
