"Altillo" by DERZU are six songs composed during 2024. Inspired by a particle of Lima, Peru. Six instrumental songs, but wrapped and inspired by the sound dimension of something else. Sounds of urban hustle and bustle are explored and personal memories linked to that space are translated into speeches spoken by candid schoolchildren, for example. In short, six songs perhaps with an electro rock vibe, sometimes given to electronic textures, others to improvising with an instrument, dedicated to that place and its spirits: that static decadence, the heartbeat of the city, the history of Peru and my own school life.


"Altillo" de DERZU son seis temas compuestos durante el 2024. Inspirado en un lugar en el centro de la ciudad de Lima, la eterna. Seis temas instrumentales, pero envueltos e inspirados en la dimensión sonora de algo más. Se explora sonidos del trajín urbano y se traducen recuerdos personales, vinculados a ese espacio, en discursos dichos por escolares candorosos, por ejemplo. En suma, seis temas de onda electro rock quizá, a veces dados a las texturas electrónicas, otras a improvisar con un instrumento, dedicados a ese lugar y sus espíritus: esa decadencia estática, el latido de la ciudad, la historia del Perú y mi propia vida de escolar.

There was a movie called "Holocaust 2000" (1977), staring Kirk Douglas.A Sunday late night TV nightmare from our childhood.

2019: Let’s profane this one. Let’s infuse them with our electronic domains.

2020: Quarantine days and just before Kirk Douglas died at 103. We finished it on isolation, as usual. Is this a bad joke about a world coming to an end? Twenty years were added to the fictional title.

A lonely widow has a racing horse as her most precious treasure. Is she in love with a horse or it is just another metaphor about sexual passion?

A major ingredient on "Fiebre" are those exquisite sounds and dialogue taken from the Argentine film "Fever" (1970), starring by sex-symbol Isabel Sarli (1935-2019), written and directed by her lover (and exclusive director), Armando Bo.

Under the spell of Isabel Sarli, a very bad dancer but always supporting pleasures of the body (just like us), we decided to explore the ways of the digital cumbia (and other music forms). Some perverted (or naive) experimentation was also welcomed.

A mad scientist keeps alive the head of her girlfriend hoping to get her another body.

Inspired by the B movie, "The Brain That Wouldn't Die" (1962), we made this "tribute score" using some odd dialogues and sounds from the movie combined with our exquisite, free of forms, drums infested, electronic music. Some randomness was welcomed.

We are: A. Sidaris, movie excerpts selector and mixer of the tracks; R. Dante, in charge of many digital instruments, and S.Meyer, electronic percussionist, and the first to fall asleep in our movie sessions.

We call ourselves "Derzu" in honor of the lead character on Akira Kurosawa´s "Dersu Usala" (1975), the natural man whose encounter with civilization leads him to ruin. We were like him. Once children who run naked until we sink into the well of western popular culture. And we now dont know who we are anymore.

This time we wanted to stay within the vast limits of a single electronic instrument. All sounds were produced and performed using only the Buchla Music Easel. The perfect synth for this robot innuendo.

This EP is inspired by a remote, partially lost and silent film, "L'uomo meccanico" (Italy, 1921). One of the oldest films about robots.
