Lone - Between The Wind And Clouds (Mignon Remix)

Three years on from their debut collaborative album “Passive Aggressive“, Jonny Nash and Suzanne Kraft return with "Knife", the lead single from their forthcoming album, “A Heart So White”.

The single comes with an exclusive bonus digital track, "Processing The Negative", which will not appear on the full album.

“A Heart So White” represents a continuation of the working philosophy adopted during the recording of their debut; immersion in an unfamiliar recording environment with a limited set of tools and the goal of exploring the possibilities that lie within these limitations.

The album was written and recorded in the Willem Twee Concertzaal, a converted synagogue in Den Bosch, Holland. Whilst “Passive Agressive” explored virtual instruments and environments, “A Heart So White” shifts the focus to acoustic instrumentation, breath, air and physical space. Using the hall’s mechanical drawer organ and Steinway piano, the pair craft a delicately balanced suite of compositions, stripping things back to reveal the bare essence of their shared musical language.

Pie Are Squared is Italy-based Egyptian musician Mohammed Ashraf. He has previously released music through labels such as Handstitched*, Lost Children and on Eilean Records as Śruti, his collaboration with Omar El Abd. Some of you may also recall this year's 'muri', which was the 13th addition to our Home Diaries Series.

'Con Calma' is a serene album for quiet contemplation, as minimalist tones glide and encourage a sense of detachment. It began as Mohammed gathered recordings on his mobile phone whilst travelling, which were later fed through various chains of effects. Guitars and a range of utilities were used to craft these lulling tones, with the wealth of source and detail somehow liquefying into a collection of daydreams. 

These reveries were assembled from lengthy loop sessions, which Mohammed listened to for almost a year to help him detach from the mundane office routine. He wanted this work to be a form of escapism, yet free from anxiety; a slow, calm exit.

Con Calma is not completely weightless and feather-lite; at times the light abrasion of distortion joins the wash, to add texture. The album is best enjoyed with the tracks played in sequence, as they envelope you into a sense of contemplation, starting from humble, quiet beginnings, journeying through air and rail in 'Flügezüge', onto more than a hint of stormy seas towards the second half, before closing with the daze of its final moments in 'Away, World, Away'.

For the second single of ‘Barricade’, Matthew Hayes and Charlie Perry are joined by the formidable Allysha Joy.  Well versed in poetry and performance, Allysha Joy lends her husky, spoken vocals and potent lyricism to ‘I Can Hear You’. Her unique musicianship and killer vocals have garnered legions of attentive fans the world over, both as a solo artist and as part of the acclaimed 30/70 Collective. Allysha Joy is an artist that presents a palette of intricate grace and optimism, whilst unafraid of adding uncomfortable truths.

Matthew Hayes and Charlie Perry come together to present Barricade, a record that instills hope and softness with a delicate balance of intricate bass guitar, electronic ambience and spoken word. The fusing of these elements imbues a sense of vulnerability, introspection and hopefulness throughout the entirety of the record, inspiring a calmness and beauty that emerges from amongst the ceaseless din of the world around us.

Hayes approached fellow musician and spoken word artist Charlie Perry at the beginning of 2020, to collaborate on some recordings originally written while on tour in Europe. The pair instantly hit it off and the idea to complete a record together was formed, not to be set back by the shutdown of the world almost immediately after. Hayes, caught in Europe mid-tour, based himself in the south of France, while Perry retreated to Australia’s southern coastline in the small beachside town of Fairhaven. This cross continental collaboration continued over many months as the world around them reeled from the results of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The album features other notable collaborations, such as the guest appearance of renowned saxophonist and JK Group bandleader Joshua Kelly on 'Introduction'; the one and only Allysha Joy delivers her unique talent with a soft yet powerful performance on 'I Can Hear You', and the versatile brilliance of Aarti Jadu shines in 'You Care I Know'.

As a whole, this record is a document of the power of creativity, community and hopefulness in a world that stands disjointed. It is a record that embraces rawness and vulnerability, and is executed with a sophisticated nuance and ease.
