Erdi Irmak is no stranger to the scene, and an established purveryover of touching productions on the likes of Tale & Tone and Hoomidas. As a firm figure amongst the top tier of up-and-coming deep house producers, we are thrilled to have Erdi launch our Selectors series.

The Turk offered his interpretations on the recent Same Light EP, finding the perfect middle ground for the release on his XYZ debut. He pays homage to the original’s understated moments, while placing weight on the groove to give the remix immense dance-ability.

XYZ Selectors 001 - Erdi Irmak

This weeks special is a ride between deep house and deep tech, and, if you listen closely, you'll notice some Detroit and Chicago house influence. Yulia Niko's Mezcalita is an awesome groover that gets you started the right way on this monday!

Quickly falling under the spell of House music, Yulia learned to DJ at the age of 15 and was soon a resident in Sochi, Russia, close to where she grew up. After getting her Law degree, Yulia relocated first to Greece, then New York, where she wrote two albums worth of material which ended up getting her signed to a number of labels. Her break out track, ‘Zurich’, was snapped up by Get Physical to widespread acclaim. No wonder she received a coveted ‘One to Watch’ from Mixmag the same year.

In Berlin, where she currently lives, Yulia refocused her attention and wrote another brace of tracks, two of which were picked up by Damien Lazarus’ Rebellion imprint. Now signed to some impressive top-tier labels, Yulia’s studio craft was being recognised by an ever-growing army of high profile admirers including Dennis Ferrer, Jamie Jones, Lee Foss, and many others who were playing and charting her music.

Besides her incredible DJ and studio skills, Yulia has impressive business acumen. Setting up her first record label, TochnoTechno back in 2016 showed the tougher end of her musical palette and helped her understand the logistics of the business. With Libe Vibe, she is delivering her second label project, supporting young artists. It explores the relationship between the vibe and energy, a sonic experimentation that will bring new and old sounds together collectively. 

Her latest release, Manifesto EP, is out today on Watergate Records. It comes with three original releases and remixes by YokoO and/or Francesco Mami. Our favorite is the original of "Passion", a percussion-heavy groover with hypnotic vocals. It's our lucky day, Yulia used it in her sensational Mezcalita!

Known for his releases on All Day I Dream and iconic sets at Burning Man's Robot Hearts stage, Hoj closes out our week with a dreamy Guest Mix.

Over two decades in dance music have made Hoj more than capable of living up to his reputation as a sonic storyteller. His cinematic sets explore the deep house landscape with a fervor that resonates through dance floors across the globe.

Close colleagues like Lee Burridge simply refer to his style as “Hoj house” rather than attempting to pin down its eclectic nuances. Although a longer road, staying the course of his artistic vision has paid off. In addition to a residency and landmark releases on Burridge’s All Day I Dream imprint, he now provides a platform for like-minded producers by way of their joint venture, Tale and Tone.

An extensive background in the visual arts set Hoj (pronounced with a long Ō) on a path less traveled by the average DJ/producer. Born in Iran and raised in the Bay Area of the U.S., he grew up exposed to film and music alike. Prior to DJing full time his background was in film, design and new media. He was the brainchild behind All Day I Dream’s brand identity, coming up with the single cloud design.

Hoj also discovered electronic music early in life. He attended his first rave in San Francisco in the early 90s, and he experienced the inauguration of legendary warehouse venue Homebase. After DJing for a few years, he made his San Francisco debut at Qoöl Happy Hour, an event series that took place at 111 Minna Gallery.

Soon afterwards he got involved with outfits like Opel Productions and Spundae, which afforded him audiences at the city’s more prominent nightclubs. He went on to help build the inaugural Opulent Temple sound camp for the 2003 edition of Burning Man. He has performed annually at the transformative gathering ever since.

Upon moving to New York City in 2008, however, Hoj outgrew the category of local DJ. Each passing year after that point brought bigger milestones and more momentum.

After his set on the Robot Heart art car during the 2010 edition of Burning Man, he was booked at the world-famous Berlin nightclub Berghain’s Panorama Bar. 2011 saw Lee Burridge launch All Day I Dream to serve the dual purpose of a record label and event brand, and he enlisted Hoj as a resident DJ of the latter. Since then Hoj has brought dance floors to life across the globe. Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York City account for much of his fan base, but his following has also grown significantly in locations like Canada, Mexico, Australia, South Africa, Dubai, Romania and London.

2017 marked two especially groundbreaking turning points for Hoj: His long-awaited debut as a producer and the unveiling of he and Burridge’s new record label, Tale and Tone. The label features music the founding DJs play at night, unique tunes with both story and groove. Around the same time, his own Telefade EP, released on All Day I Dream. The three-track EP included “Leap Day” as well as a remix of the title track by Bedouin. Hoj followed up Telefade with his own Tale and Tone release in 2018. Titled “Ramblefog,” it appeared on the imprint’s Prologue compilation, What has followed is more releases on both labels, and a touring schedule that has seen him deliver magic across all four corners of the globe.

Germain virtuoso Tim Engelhardt is back to Eleatics and this time with a full release. Having remixed 'Gypsy' by The Organism last year for us, Tim is returning back with 'Sun' EP consisting of two beautiful compositions by Tim.

Main titled 'Sun' is the elegant melodic symphony.
Lyric, dramatic and intriguing: these are the words, which are the best describing the mood of the track, which is drawing the autumn mood so so precisely and accurately.

Fur Coat are taking their 'Sun' remix work seriously, as they always do in any production piece their hands touch.
The vigorous bassline in combination with the repetitive leads throughout the dark growling sounds are extracting the dance energy from Tim's original track.

The farther we go, the more energetic it becomes.
'What Drives Us' is the energy essence in sound. Tight subs' work is moving the flying melodies of Tim to the highest intensity level, where it all cuts at the breakdown with the dissonating bells sounds.

Con un sonido característico en su música, nutrido de elementos provenientes de géneros como el rock psicodélico, blues, soul y componentes de film score en sus pistas. 
Comparten la misma mirada sobre lo que buscan: evocar y dar vida a una nueva dimensión en el espectro musical.
