Liebus had his first release on the Holding Hands Submerged label a couple of years ago now with four killer eyes down cuts and now he’s stepping up on the main label with some serious peak time action.

Every track hits you straight in the chest and should send any hardened dancefloor warrior into fits of gun fingers and stank faces. Believe me, I’ve seen the evidence myself on many occasions when I’ve been testing these out in clubs over the last few years.

Stand back and take notice because Liebus has arrived and he’s taking no prisoners.

Slam Jams is always one of the most fun elements of Holding Hands to put together because I get to combine a wide variety of banging slammy jammy vibes from across the board in one place.

This time I’ve got one track from returning peak time maestros not even noticed, one from myself (Desert Sound Colony) and two from label newcomers Mr Jones and DJ Merlín. Each one has a different flavour and it’s fair to say each one slaps harder than a 17th century gentleman brandishing his white glove.

HHANDS027 - Slam Jams Vol.4 (Clips)

Two years ago, after Covid sent the industry into a tailspin I made the sad decision to stop pressing Holding Hands records to vinyl. This was gutting as the label had been putting records out from the first release and it had always felt like an integral part of the label’s identity.  

It sucked but I always hoped that in the future I would be able to feel confident in pressing records again and I am so happy to say that the time has finally come again!
Earth Trax popped into my inbox with some demos and I instantly knew there was something special here. The tracks are absolutely timeless and will do the business on any dancefloor from now until the end of time.

The A sides have more of loopy club quality that you could listen to all night. The sort of thing that you just lose yourself to when it comes on in the club. You aren’t sure exactly when it came on but you suddenly realise that you’ve been gurning with your eyes closed for some indeterminate amount of time. Basically, they’re very chewy loops (note to self: potential cereal idea).

The B sides have more of a…for lack of a better word, B side quality to them. They’re both broken and they make me want to move my body from side to side in a sort of jagged cool 80’s way. Ones to make you move and think at the same time.

Well this one has been a long time coming. 

My last full release came out over two years ago and in the mean time I’ve mainly been busy parenting it up with my two girls. Music took a bit of a back seat and I think you can all agree that that is probably fair enough. Now they’ve grown up a bit I’ve finally got some time to get back in the studio and twiddle the old knobs again and boy has it been a joy! I don’t think I realised how much I had missed making freaky bass lines and shooting lazer sounds...
These three tracks are the beginning and I am working on many more that I will be getting out over the next few months so keep those ears peeled and eyes to the ground.

The second track on the New Dawn EP is called Home Alone and it is probably my favourite one on here.

It's giving me 3am dark room, big sound system vibes which is really where I want to be IRL.

It's definitely been too long since I was in an environment like that and listening back to this one is making me need to book tickets to a night out asap.

Well you know what they say, home is where the heart is. I must say it feels all nice and warm to be back on the label myself as Desert Sound Colony.

I’ve put together a few more rippers for you to enjoy. I hope they serve you well in the club and spin a few people from one side of the dance floor to the other. Imagine everyone’s brains are attached to yoyos and you have control of them. You could metaphorically be walking the dog with their minds if you play these at the right time. Doesn’t that sound appealing...?

It is too awkward for me to ‘big up’ my own productions in the way that a normal press release seems to want, so I will just say that I have been playing these three out for the last six months and the results have been pretty much as described in the paragraph above. They are aimed straight at the dance floor, peak time tackle for when you also want to get everyone feeling pretty weird. Expect swingitty swung rhythms throughout and the feeling of having a rave in a drainpipe.

B2. Grabbing The Golden Goose

Ran by Karima F and visual artist Ida Ekblad, Oslo-based Schloss Records is not only a record label but also an art gallery. With each release sporting grandiose aesthetics from Ida, as a platform Schloss continues to catch both eyes and ears in equal measure.

Their next offering comes from Mr. Timothy Crombie, most commonly known as A Psychic Yes. Entitled ' That Swamp Feeling', the EP features Bristol's Hodge on the remix.

Whilst the original brims with raw drum patterns and steel pan melody, Hodge brightens up the arrangement filling space with airy synth tones and his well-known preference for Jurassic wildlife samples.
