DESSERT002 comes in the form of the Verano Yang EP by Argia.
Argia is a Spanish-born DJ and producer with a background steeped in music. Having studied piano and double bass at a conservatory, she naturally drifted towards the allure of electronic rhythms as time passed. Her sound blends together elements of melodic techno and nu-disco without being constrained by either; guided by a stripped-back and intuitive approach.
Verano Yang EP was written pre-pandemic in 2019 - Skynaut in the winter, and the title track in the summer. Verano Yang is an assured, striding piece of disco-leaning house, packed with tension for those misty early morning dancefloor moments. Skynaut is a spacey roller which swims in a sweet spot between melodic techno and deep house, with its silk-laden synths feeling dreamy, yet loaded with urgency.
Mala Ika, a French artist originally from Guadeloupe and co-founder of the label Sweet Musique who's known for her digging sensibilities. She turns Verano Yang into an Italo- inflected cruiser, lifting the synth melodies to centre-stage to killer effect. Dutch artist Rancido, an artist best known for releases on Innervisions and Omeni on a deep and afrobeat-led tip, serves up his 'Sunset Dub' of Skynaut. It's a floaty, percussive roller which is loaded with subtle grooves, melodic flourishes and wistful melancholia - a classy but deadly soundtrack to late nights, early mornings and those many moments in between.

Mala Ika is a French artist, DJ and producer - born and raised in Guadeloupe, and now based in Paris. Following stellar musical contributions to noted labels such as Jennifer Cardini's Correspondant, and quietly honing her craft throughout lockdown, she's emerged with the fifth edition of Dessert - Es Regnett ueberall.
Meaning "it's raining everywhere" in English, the title itself is misleading. Contained within Mala Ika's titular track and its package of three remixes is an abundance of light, motion and joyous expression. The lead track is a dynamic but slow burning dancefloor strider, tying early 90s house motifs to arpeggiated disco grooves, with a chopped vocal hook leading proceedings.

With the first remix is Alinka, known for previously penning tracks on Crosstown Rebels & Classic, who strips and reshapes the components of the original into a sturdy, versatile dancefloor tool.

Next up, Musumeci (Diynamic, Innervisions, Multinotes) serves up a punchy, powerhouse flip of the original, which he and Lehar used to work many dancefloors into a frenzy throughout pride month.

To close out, K7! Poker Flat and Exploited alumni Joyce Muniz takes it into altogether loftier territory, looping the vocal over the top of a warm, arpeggiated bassline, boosted to the brim with main-stage sonic energy.

Together, Es Regnett ueberall comprises four diverse but equally deadly rhythmic workouts, capable of conquering dancefloors and loosening limbs around the globe.

Tom Peters' Dessert series rolls into its sixth release courtesy of label head Tom Peters and Ralf Kobernuss, while welcoming a pioneering force from the atmospheric outer reaches of house and techno in Carsten Jost on remix duty.

Tom and Ralf both originate from the Northern parts of Germany, with Unity the product of a collaborative session in Ralf's studio, embedded amongst the surrounding forests and fields. The stillness and allure of this setting feels as if it's been encapsulated in the track itself - Unity moves with the unpredictability and subtle dramatic peaks of the landscape where it was formed. From a D'sJ perspective, it serves as a warm, inquisitive mid-tempo house track which rewards the attentive listener, with atmosphere and groove in equal measure.

Carsten Jost reinterprets this into a quietly stunning piece of softly undulating techno; not only faithful to the mood of the original, but recalibrating its organic aesthetic into something even more expansive. Fans of his label Dial will recognise that distinctively classy mode of deep dancefloor music with which he's been so closely associated over the years - rhythmic patterns imbued with a gentle melancholy.

Unity marks a major moment for DESSERT - a nascent, ambitious Berlin label making big steps.

The seventh serving of Dessert is the work of Dumming Dum, an Italian artist currently based in London.DESSERT007 features two of Dumming Dum original productions alongside two very tasteful flips by Murat Uncuoglu and Baime.

The release leads with Aeden, a slow-burning chunk of industrial power house. Led by an alternating off-kilter vocal hook, it's dense layers of vintage drums and synthwork combine to conjure up a tantalisingly intense dancefloor trip. Sitting more towards the chugging end of the tempo spectrum, the slower BPM only adds more weight to the track's potency.

Second track Hononest takes on a more colourful hue, drawing strands from Italo, electro and acid house before honing them into a formidable concoction. The softer yin to Aeden's yang, its chopped female vocals provide the focal point while the arpeggiated synths behind it kick like clockwork.

The emotional peak of the record undoubtedly comes in the form of Murat Uncuoglu's stellar remix of Aeden. Working closely with the original, Uncuoglu ladens it with subtle percussive layers before steering it starwards. Rolling out a memorable, deliciously disjointed melody in the breakdown, his version is an eight minute masterclass in emotive techno.

Copenhagen-based duo Baime's Aeden remix closes out the release with aplomb, tapping into the tension and drive of the original while opening it up further with panoramic atmospherics. The addition of snarling saw-wave synths lends a grittier flex to a track which is guaranteed to do damage on many dancefloors.

Abuk offers up the eighth serving of Dessert in the form of the Take It Safe EP, ably assisted by remixes from Innervisions' EdOne and Dessert's very own Argia.

Born in Buenos Aires, Abuk has long been fusing the spirit of melodic and techno with a galaxy of global sounds, showcased in particular potent form on this EP.
The lead track Take It Safe is a strikingly atmospheric club track, packed with dramatic glitches and melodic edits but controlled with expertly applied constraint.
Morse Code follows up, taking a more slow-burning approach with layered arpeggios and a jagged bassline. It builds up to a dark crescendo, before sweeping in with the kind of unexpected cuts and swerves which will be sure to keep a crowd guessing.

EdOne's reimagination of Morse Code taps knowingly into the original's energy, pushing the atmospherics into more ecstatic terrain and flipping the neat percussive edits into essential parts of his remix's irresistible groove.

Argia flips the title track to close out another excellent edition of the Dessert series. She rebuilds its parts into a ferociously driving slice of melodic house, perfectly crafted for maintaining main room energy in any setting.

Berlin's Dessert rolls out its 9th serving, with the label fast establishing itself as a hotbed of up and coming talent in the more considered realms of melodic house and techno. EdOne returns to the driving seat, with the Spanish artist having helmed releases for Innerversions, Defected and of course Dessert itself.

A club-focused three tracker, DESSERT009 wastes no time getting into it. Opener Brine lulls you into a false sense of security, slowly blending ice cold hallucinogenic atmospherics into a payoff that recalls some of Robag Wruhme's most nifty moments. When the "erect" refrain enters shortly after, it conjures scenes of heated, sexually charged dancefloors - a moment which is sure to flick a switch when the night is at its most fervent.

Maintaining the pace, Inwaz brings the trippy atmospherics and techy touches of Brine into the forefront. Coupled with its wicked spoken word sections, it's a sublime melodic techno mover shot through with a subtle but deadly energy.

Suitably titled, The Last Chance rounds out the EP in night-closing fashion - a dynamic dancefloor bomb packed full of kinetic elements and spaced out FX. It feels tailormade to serve as an emotionally-charged and dramatic closer to a night, but would undoubtedly do damage at peak time too. As
 label owner Tom Peters can attest, it's capable of moving any
 dancefloor after being road tested extensively in Bogota, Guadalajara, NYC, Bali and Berlin.

Label head Tom Peters returns for DESSERT028 with ‘Fuego’, a futuristic cyberstorm of surging synth contortions and arcing mechanical soundscapes anchored in a compact, heavy groove.

‘Fuego’ infuses weighty four-to-the-floor drums with scorching dystopian futurism and driving Indie Dance undercurrents. Strobing flares of blips and sweeps, contorted electric arpeggios, and a darkly rasping vocal mantra coalesce into mesmeric eruptions of wave-bending energy and thundering up-tempo drumwork. With ‘Distortion’, Ralf Kobernuss delivers sepulchral Techno Noir with a thundering Industrial substructure alongside a bright and snappy reimagination by Rancido for DESSERT029.

‘Distortion unfolds oceans of darkly phasing pads, washed-out vocal chants, and hypnotizing saw-wave sweeps that surge across a corrugated rumble of drums. Ralf Kobernuss’ morphing themes open up a shuddering witching hour of mesmeric synth work and punishing low-end for late nights and early mornings.

Rancido contrasts the oozing darkness with an anthemic synth hook, searing stabs, and brightly pulsating percussive salvos. 
Cascading arpeggios cut through the original’s spaced- out pads, transforming ‘Distorsion’ into a razor-sharp floor-focused groover.

‘Distortion fuses powerfully anesthetic soundscapes with pounding subs and analog drums, bringing a hypnotic brand of left-field techno to the dancefloor with punishing intensity.
