Cristina Lazic returns to Damian Lazarus’ Rebellion for her three-track ‘Secrets’ EP, featuring Shar.  

Still young in her electronic music career, with influences dating back to her early years playing piano, DJ/producer,  composer and musician Cristina Lazic has steadily emerged onto the global landscape across the past five years.  Born in Italy and raised in London before returning to Milan, where she currently resides, her formative years have  helped with crafting her own shades of house music, with high-profile appearances from Hï in Ibiza through to Get  Lost in Miami and Exit Festival in Serbia. Releasing on both Crosstown Rebels and Rebellion, late February  welcomes an impressive return to the latter, bringing three fresh productions across her ‘Secrets’ EP. 

“As they say, ‘things always come in threes’, and I am excited to present you my third EP out on Rebellion.  Through this new release, I continue diving into topics that resonate with me. I believe I have developed a  ‘sound signature’ and use my productions to tell my story and voice my experiences.  

As usual with my music, each track has a meaning. ‘Secrets’, co-created with Shar, aims to raise some  curiosity in people’s minds, reminding them that life can be more interesting if some things remain untold -  especially in a world where people overshare on social media platforms. I was inspired to compose  ‘Welcome To The Circus’ after playing at Get Lost Miami last year: a visionary, crazy experience where  everyone is welcome - again, the text is co-written with Shar. And finally, ‘Wallball’ is inspired by sports  sessions I have recently attended. Out of all exercises, wallballs were the most difficult ones for me. I  wanted to flip a challenging task and turn it into a positive memory, this track - more minimal, groovy, a  club banger to have people dancing - now delivers uplifting vibes.” - Cristina Lazic. 

Opening via the hypnotic and winding sonics of title cut ‘Secrets’ featuring Shar, the three tracks across the  package balance light and dark moments for a rich and expansive offering. ‘Welcome To The Circus’, also  alongside Shar, fuses resonant vocals with evolving electronics and sweeping synth lines before the rolling and  refined ‘Wallball’ sees Lazic step out solo to shape up proceedings in emphatic fashion.

The Cacao crew pay their respects to their favourite classic tunes. While we’re constantly flooded by daily rapid-fire releases, there are some timeless gems that always ignite the dancefloors. The following tracks come from influential artists that have left their mark on the Cacao team’s sound world, blending perfectly into their sets. 
At number one we have Rodriguez Jr. of the mobilee family with his Kids of Hula belter. A playful groove serves as centerpiece, dotted by exotic fauna sounds that reach for the tropics. Alternating percussive pads, the fittingly tribal drums bring the entire melody together, making it a perfect peak-time track.
Dub Taylor’s aptly titled Hidden From the Mind showcases a fully immersive tribal experience. Kicking off with wooden percussive loops that make for an instant earworm, we’re gradually greeted with distorted vocals and an ample groove that blend into the perfect dub tech journey.

The first B-side takes us further into the house jungle, with youANDme’s deep edit of Lawrence & Seth Troxler’s Miles in Aphrika. A stern echoed vocal presents itself as the leitmotif, while the melody progressively unfolds. Metallic pads and subtle synth grabs add to the atmosphere, creating a sense of space and amping up the overall intensity.
Audiofly turn Martin Eyerer and Benno Blome’s Piano Roll into a jazzy house exploration with major dancefloor appeal. Bouncy yet deep, the bassline keeps the body moving, while the {Rhodes} piano chords create the perfect immersive groove. One to heat up the atmosphere at any point during a set!

Berlin-based Dessous Recordings never disappoints. Steve Bug has built the label as a platform for his deep and vocal oriented house leanings, and manages to continually curate an incredibly prolific release schedule. So much so, that it is hard to stay on top of - luckily for us, the label occasionally gathers together tracks in a handy compilation, such as this We Like It Deep release.

The compilation is full of highlights from the label’s roster, including killer tunes from the likes of Langenberg, James Dexter, Tom Flynn, Vincenzo and Thierry Thomas. The vibe is exactly what Dessous had become famous for - deeply felt house music with tonnes of emotion and an innate feel for what works on the floor.
