Pt. 2 of this month’s LiT MiX double feature on Vancouver’s Audio Social crew features emerging producer/DJ/promoter Destrata. A brewer by day, Destrata is sure to make the dancefloor bubble by night! 

Chugging through bouncy syncopated mutations of leftfield UK Bass music and Afro-Latin infused techno, this genre-blurring set includes his own original tracks amidst aesthetically adjacent established and emerging producers. 

Having released his debut E.P. on Denmark’s Indexlife in 2021, and a track on mentor Martyn’s 3024 label, Destrata’s first release of 2022 is with partner Garneau as the dynamic electro breaks duo Energy Boyz, whose E.P. “Energize” is out this week on Finland’s Tob Billin’ Label. Stay tuned to Audio Social for events and mix series curated by Destrata alongside Lil Cis, Handsome Tiger, and Thuja.

Destrata - Super Best Ep 8 - May 17, 2022

For the 21st instalment of our mix series we have Audio Social co-founder Destrata stepping up with an hour of low tempo bass. Rolling through mutant dancehall, slow uk bass, & percussive bangers from around the globe, this mix showcases the 100-115 BPM bass sound at its most energetic.

Vancouver based DJ and Producer Destrata is never one to be limited by a specific genre or style. His debut track ‘Bait & Switch’, a 130 BPM hybrid drum workout, came out on Martyn’s legendary 3024 label in 2021 as part of the “It Was Always There’ compilation series. This was followed quickly by his debut EP ‘Low Sun’ on Danish label Indexlife; which combined minimal bass sensibilities with the percussive edge of Uk Funky.
In early 2022 the Norwegian label Top Billing released the ‘Energy Boyz Ep’, a collaboration between Destrata and techno producer Garneau. A hybrid of ravey breakbeat and classic electro, their Energy Boyz side project is an outlet for both producers' less serious side. Destrata’s output of left of center, percussion focused club music continued with his latest EP released on London's Eat My Beat in 2022, as well as another release with dutch imprint Intercept slated for later in the year.

Intercept Mix Series 14 - Destrata

Canadian producer Destrata enters the series with a bubbling bass bath that leans into both the old and new school featuring tracks from Jurango, Piezo, Doctor Jeep, Mia Koden, INVT and a couple of unreleased gems for good measure. 

Most recently releasing on Darwin’s SPE:C and Of Paradise imprint, Destrata also co-runs the Audio Social mix series and is one half of the production duo Energy Boyz.
