Dub Gabriel returns with his 3rd release of his 7” vinyl series, this
time with a true reggae legend, Ranking Joe! With over a 40-year
career, he has solidified his legacy in the history of reggae working
with such giants as Studio One, Sly & Robbie, Greensleeves, King
Tubby, Trojan and many others.

We are also honored to have another legend on the Dub Remix B side,
none other then the great RSD (Rob Smith from Smith & Mighty). His
work through the years has defined the sound of Bristol and beyond and
continues to redefine the sound of Raggabass to future generations.
Mastered in London by the amazing Kevin Metcalfe and pressed on
thick hi quality 7” vinyl, this is a ltd. edition, hand numbered &
stamped series of 500 and will also be available digitally.

Jackson was initially inspired towards a musical career by his father, who operated a sound system.[1] He attended secondary school with Winston McAnuff, U Brown and Earl Sixteen, and they would perform concerts.[1] After starting out by toasting on the Smith The Weapon sound system, Jackson progressed to the El Paso sound system, where he performed under the name Little Joe (inspired by the character from Bonanza), inspired greatly by U-Roy.[1][2] He first recorded for Coxsone Dodd's Studio One in 1974, releasing "Gun Court". Initially unsuccessful as a recording artist, he studied electronics before returning to recording in the mid-1970s with greater success, having a hit with "Honda 750", which was followed by singles such as "Psalm 54", "Natty Don't Make War" and the Bionic Man-tribute "Steve Austin".[2] "Stop Your Coming and Come" provided the first deejay hit for Sly & Robbie's Taxi label.[3] In the latter half of the 1970s he released three albums and also returned to sound system work with U-Roy's King Sturgav setup.[2][3] His big break in international terms came in 1980, when the Ray Symbolic Hi Fi sound system, with which he was then the resident deejay, toured the United Kingdom, raising his profile and helping his Weakheart Fadeaway become a major seller for Greensleeves Records. A string of further albums followed in the early 1980s, which saw Joe move away from the "cultural" chants of his early work towards the "slackness" that had become popular. Ray Symbolic's death interrupted Joe's career,[2] but he returned as a producer, with dubs of his productions released on the King Tubby albums Original King Key Dub and Dangerous Dub. He later moved to New York City, setting up a record label, also named Ranking Joe, which provided an outlet for his productions.[1][3] He proved to be a major influence on one of the most successful deejays of the early 1980s, Eek-A-Mouse.[3]

Dub Gabriel is a music producer, multi-instrumentalist and DJ based in San Francisco. He started his career 20 years ago in New York City, throwing warehouse parties in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, which at the time was a little known area, but his parties helped lay down the groundwork for nightlife in the now Brooklyn mecca. NYC press was taking notice and soon after, he was being featured in such publications as Interview, New York Times, Time Out NY & Village Voice. This eventually led to some of the biggest clubs in NYC booking Dub Gabriel, at places such as The Limelight, Twilo, APT, Cielo, Tonic, Knitting Factory and others. 

In 2005, he was offered a residency at Goya in Berlin, located at the original location of the notorious Metropol club & was built in a turn of the century opera house that survived two world wars. While living in Berlin, he toured continuously through Europe playing everywhere from anarchist squats to mega-festivals. 

In 2007, Dub Gabriel moved back to the States to San Francisco and in the following year he established his record label, Destroy All Concepts, a genre-defying label that was designed to be the home for various projects of Gabriel’s collaborations and productions. Highlight of guests include reggae legends, U-Roy, Ranking Joe & Brother Culture. Also, U.K. Dubstep pioneers, The Spaceape & Warrior Queen. And, world music giants, Master Musicians of Jajouka & Balkan Beat Box, as well as members of rock’s elite including Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Michael Stipe of R.E.M., David J of Bauhaus/Love & Rockets and Golgol Bordello vocalist/percussionist, Pedro Erazo. 

His albums have all been critic’s picks in the music press. Dangerous Minds says “Gabriel showing ultimate respect for the dubwise tradition as he seeks to launch it deep into this new century.” Billboard compared him to Brian Eno, XLR8R called his albums a “Philosophical Masterpiece” & Paste called it a “Kubrickian Soundtrack For Future Societies”. 

Besides his love for the studio, Dub Gabriel still finds time to keep an active touring schedule throughout North America, Europe and Asia. He has performed at such festivals as Outside Lands in California, Shambahala Music Festival in British Columbia and Fusion Festival in Germany to name a few.
