The fourth EP in the Duality Trax series comes from Estonia based artists Steffan Todorović and Joonas Arro under their Abdul Raeva alias. 

It’s a sonic match-made-in-heaven, with both contributing artists and label head sharing an admiration for bouncy, fun and deep club music that dangles its legs on the border of emotionality without taking itself too seriously. 

Ear-wriggling acid lines and psychedelic atmospherics balance a gritty and driving drum rhythm across a kaleidoscopic six minutes in the lead track 'Atlas Corporation', before ‘Death Race’ blends techy dub with Abdul Raeva’s signature proggy sauce, best played as the sun begins to rise again. 

Staying true to the concepts of gender and sonic duality, the remix comes from Australian DJ and Pure Space-founder Andy Garvey who turns in a breakbeat-laden, broken acid-techno rendition of the A2, before we come to a meditative close with the tropical, downtempo sounds of ‘Guardian of the Vault’.

The latest offering from the Belfast label presents a cosmic set of heavy-hitters from Estonian duo Abdul Raeva, a remix from 'Pure Space' founder Andy Garvey and there's something unexpectantly serene at the end to complete the bundle. Even though the label is still in it’s infancy, it’s clear that Holly is focussed on taking it to the moon. New! What, an adjective. Entirely subjective, or objective depending on your perspective. The harbinger of quality perhaps, or simply that of a flash of brilliance, gone quicker than the blink of an eye. New can be used for many things, however, today’s focus of an oft favorite adjective falls on the shoulders of Melbourne based DJ, and producer, Kia, her label, and a cadre of fellow artists. 

Animalia as a label is new in every sense of the word, and in every sense, the best possible. Much like her mixes, Kia has curated an intricate selection from the thriving Melbourne scene that ticks every box for a burgeoning label. A proverbial shot across the musical bow if you will.

Our shot for today comes in the form of Dashiell & Sam Brickel and ‘Run Out Groove’. Nestled nicely among the other breakish tunes of Animalia 001, ‘Run Out Groove’ provides just as the name implies. Grooves with undulating synths and flashy acid highlights, persisting throughout to provide a top tier atmosphere. We’ll be watching, with ears wide open here at Delayed for what new things come out of Animalia, and we hope you do as well.
