I can remember when all of the numbers knew what it meant to share.
Sure, they all were different, but no one seemed to care.
Can’t say exactly when it started happening, but getting along now is rare.
They all think that they are number one.

Five says to eight, ‘well, you used to be great, but I can’t support you now’.
Three says to nine, ‘We can get along fine, but I don’t care for you anyhow.’
Seven and three used to always agree, but two came along with a plow.
They all think that they are number one.
No one gets along with anyone!

Something’s just not adding up, the math does not compute.
Everybody has an explanation of their truth.
Come November we add up the numbers from the voting booth.
Then we start it all up once again.
What if the two and the four and the six recognized what they truly shared?
What if the three and the eight were united? What if they truly cared?
But then the four and the five came together and suddenly everyone’s scared.
They all think that they are number one.
No one gets along with anyone!
We are right back where we first begun!

Towards the One

Ocean Waves Kiirtan

Upon awakening, a mantra to help one remember the divinity of the day ahead. The meaning of the mantra: Early in the morning one should meditate on the Guru in varábhaya mudrá with two hands and two eyes seated on a white lotus in Guru cakra, and remember Him by chanting His holy name.

The track starts with a conch shell being blown. The birds are native NZ tuis - recorded in Eve's Valley near Nelson. I took the liberty of composing a chant for the Guru sakash mantra - although normally this is silently repeated in one's head upon awakening. The Baba Nam Kevalam mantra which follows means "Love is all there is" or "The name of my beloved is everywhere."
