TH3 NEXT: Whilst growing up in East Germany, he was infected with Hip Hop after watching the movie “Beat Street”. His passion continued to be DJing, and after a spectacular escape from the GDR it was finally time for two turntables. 

In 2000, 10 years after starting out, he started to produce his own beats with an MPC2000XL, with a computer running other software completing his setup. He performed alongside various artists such as Rasco, Alies, Antipop, Consortium and Motion Man as well as supporting his friend DJ Fu (founder of the DRUMBULE Hamburg) with some slick scratches during DnB sets. It was at the DRUMBULE where he got to know JNS (Phokus) who, at that time, still produced Drum & Bass. Heavily influenced by the emerging Dubstep and Grime scene, they, along with MC Mindfuck, decided to introduce this relatively unknown genre of music known as DUBSTEP to the people of Hamburg.

NXT LVL was then born and took place once a month at the ASTRASTUBE and a year later, they started another regular Dubstep event, called “WOBWOB!”. Together with Deneh, Yann Ignition and The Vinylizer, they have played host to many international guests including N-TYPE, TES LA ROK, SKREAM, HEADHUNTER and LUKE ENVOY.

Deviate Guest Mix 004 - The Next

Sammy B is a Berlin based Kiwi who has had a long involvement in the bass music scene. With years behind the camera lens as a music photographer her love for bass heavy music meant it wasn’t long before she bought a pair of Technics and an old Serato box to learn DJ-ing herself. She moved to Berlin in 2013 and in the following years discovered and grew connections within the local scene specifically in Dubstep and DnB circles. 

In terms of style, Sammy B has a love of most things ‘dark’ be that building and rolling basslines, eerie ambience or metal-like aggression. In recent years she  moved out of the 140bpm territory and into the realm of 170/172bpm half-time DnB. It's a genre she feels is ever-moving, evolving and has diverse and future thinking elements that are inspiring as an artist. 

In 2018 she realised a calling to the ‘promoter life’ and launched her own event series called deviate to provide an alternative perspective for bass music parties, mixing up line-ups and genres with the goal to "depart from usual or accepted standards". The motivation for the event came from wanting to support the less-known or up and coming DJs/Producers while also giving space to female-identifying artists and encourage their participation in the non-mainstream DnB and bass music scene.

A bass event series launched in 2018 by Berlin based DJ Sammy B with the concept to depart from accepted "normalisms"  in the breakbeat dance scene. The goal is to promote less known producers and DJ's, under-rated artists, FLINTA artists, and encourage diverse genre pushing sets without discrimination.
