I was so incredibly nervous about this; doing "emotionally charged" music on cue was something that I felt was way out of my comfort zone, and I wasn't sure if I was up to the task - I especially struggled with the first part, which I felt was the most important. In the end, I think that fear permeated the music itself, and I was able to draw on experiences I lived through or witnessed to deliver this, turning all of how and what I felt like into what ultimately became the song.
Influence-wise, I decided early on that I wanted to take the minimalism of Vector Lovers and somehow merge it with the soaring energy of post-rock (like 65daysofstatic), with the mid-section being heavily influenced by - oddly - Nine Inch Nails, The Lion King and Shadow Gallery. If none of this makes sense to you, I can assure you that it didn't make sense to me either until the track started taking shape, but I somehow instinctively knew where to look when I needed certain elements.
In the end, I think the music ultimately ended up carrying a lot of the intro on its back, and it might eventually become one of the favorite pieces of music I ever did.

This is a few years old actually, but hasn't really been utilized until now; it was essentially my attempt to take a stab at the "modern" progbreaks sound (basically https://soundcloud.com/retroid and his labels)

Everything Repeats

"Quicksand" by Endbass is my submission for the polyend tracker challenge (more info here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jc_6bMTdpYM). There are more than 220 submissions in this Compo, so let's see how far I get with this little tune. :-)
The tune was composed and mastered in Logic Pro X. The only plugin I used was the built in sampler from Logic Pro X in which I loaded the samples that I was allowed to use within the contest.
For effects and mastering I used the onboard plugins of Logic Pro X.
This track is also my debut for my new Project "Endbass", which will be about experimental electronic music in general, not only Chiptunes like do with the dEViLOCk Project.

Endbass - Quicksand (Polyend Contest)

dEViLOCk is a composer located near Bremen, Germany, who is well known from the C64 and PC demo scenes. The varied style of his music is influenced not only by progressive rock bands, punk and metal but also classical music, jazz and synth pop of the 80's.

He began composing music on computers in 1989 on the Commodore 64 and joined the cracking- and demo groups Cyberpunx, Talent, 711, Tristar & Red Sector Incorporated and X-Rated and made some demo and intro music, game music, sound fx and won some competitions along the way too. The C64 was the root of all his computer music and he still uses it to produce original C64 chip tunes or to use the sounds of the C64 SID chip in professional music productions. He is currently a member of the C64 demo groups Arsenic, Performers and Oxyron.

In 1993 dEViLOCk got his first IBM PC and started to compose music with so called trackers like Fasttracker. In the late 90's and the beginning of the new millennium his music was used in many professional productions like cinematic trailers, radio commercials, web pages and presentations for agencies. dEViLOCk plays E-bass, electric- and acoustic guitar and drums on acoustic sets and also his e-drumset. Since he was 15 he played these instruments on stage in several bands like Beefcurtain (grungepunk-metal) and Mampfdampfer (crossover).

Nowadays he uses a PC, a MAC and several external hardware and real instruments to compose music. He uses state of the art soft- and hardware to produce music or sound effects for games, presentations, movies, commercials and demos.
