May is the month of the Taurus and alot of my favorite musical legends & artists happened to be Tauruses; like James Brown, Stevie Wonder, & Ghostface Killah...and ironically, I'm a Taurus as well. My birthday falls on May 10th...and to continue the tradition of sharing some goodies in honor of my birthday as well as for my fellow Tauruses, I'm posting up this mix I did a few years back. I always wanted to do a mix on James Brown, but I realized that no one can do a James Brown mix better than my brother & fellow Beat Junkie, J.Rocc, so scratch that. I thought of doing one on Ghostface Killah, but I already did one a few years ago for the Ghostface Killah doll (which is now posted on my Soundcloud page). Strike number 2! Last but not least, there's the legendary Stevie Wonder. I know that Dj Spinna & Bobbito Garcia aka Cucumber Slice are the masters when it comes to Stevie's catalogue, but I actually made a mix that was originally a birthday gift for a good friend and is a big Stevie Wonder fan. Today is Mr. Stevie Wonder's birthday (May 13), so I thought to myself, why not share it again with the people and also celebrate Stevie's birthday....I just added an intro to the mix, and what you have now, is "Wonderlove". "Raphael Saadiq is the Neo Soul and R&B producer, arranger and songwriter of a generation, yet criminally unsung. I simply wanted to shine a light on known, and some unknown, involvement of his in music over the years, from uptempo Soul of his own to his signature Two Step sound. 

Raphael's solo work needs no introduction, having redefined his sound over the years, remaining consistently current without loosing his era-defining, Soulaquarian-Neo-Soul feel. But his work with others artists is fascinating, linch-pinning so many killer R&B records whilst remaining forever background and humble.

There is a fascinating story told by Solange Knowles, of a misplaced Saadiq beat CD, which eventually lead to the makings, Grammy Award winning, Cranes In The Sky (Song Exploder, 2017). The Grammy captures Raphael’s nature perfectly, by not attending and opting out of the limelight.

For the heads, there is an obvious exemption of any Ummah records, of which Raphael was an occasional member, however with exact individual involvement on each Ummah record such a grey area, that tribute mix alone is best saved for another time..."

London’s very own Spin Doctor has been a busy boy while in Lockdown. He has created this epic mix dedicated to the powerhouse that is Q-Tip. Using 50 tracks to mark The Abstract’s 50th Birthday on Friday 10th April 2020.
 
The mix combinies a bunch of Tip’s productions, verses, samples, interviews and more. From A Tribe Called Quest to Solange, Nas to Quincey Jones, the mix explores all aspects of this man’s genius.
 
There are very few artists that can claim such impact on an entire genre, but A Tribe Called Quest’s Q-Tip can do just that and more. As a member of what is widely agreed to be the greatest Hip-Hop group of all time, as a solo artist and as a producer for the great and the good, Q-Tip’s impact is immeasurable. Through his influence on the likes of J-Dilla, Kanye West and Pharrell, his influence can still be heard throughout all forms of Hip-Hop and Soul. Keep Bouncing!
