Deep Concentration: The Grey Area mix 




The Grey Area mix is a collection of celebral minimalism from which is a speciality of Robert Hood.   Never before has there been an illustration of the many values of "grey" within the genre we call Minimal.
While Minimal is now a sound all on its own which varies from region to region, deep concentration takes you through the mind of one of it's pioneers for a close analysis of this particular variation. The Grey Area.

*Individually numbered and signed copies - Rob Hood at his absolute deepest. 300 copies only for the world!!!* Original minimal master Robert Hood follows up his essential Fabric set from earlier this year with an exclusive and insanely limited mix CD drawing for a specialized run of purified Detroit/Berlin deep and dubby techno. The Grey Area title refers to Rob's vision of Detroit techno and electronic music as the sound that occupied the forgotten zones of Detroit, the areas that became utilised for warehouse parties back in the day, and still humm and whirr with the timeless sound of technology long after the actual heavy indutry has gone. There's a soulfully longing thread tying the tracks together, from the opening anonymous tracks to Maurizio's 'M4.5' and on into previously unobserved depths with a slew of exclsuive and unreleased M-Plant style killers this is eactly the kind of selection that has won Mr. Hood a legion of devoted fans across the world, and has massively influenced the sound of the scene's biggest clubs, with Dettmann and Klock's brand of stripped but powerful techno house owing a massive debt to his sound. We're struggling to name many of the tracks here which is one of the best features of this mix, it's so fresh much of it hasn't even seen the light of day yet but we'd be massively grateful if any of the keener ears out there (or Hood himself) would like to send us a tracklist! Especially track 14, or 17, or 21, what the f**k are they?! If the Fabric mix left you asking for something that little bit deeper and nastier you can't sleep on this righteous mix. This show was 100% 92-93 vinyl, picked off the cuff from my wall with people in chat suggesting which cubes to pull tracks from. I was up for maybe 36 hours before this, and brain-dead banter and dodgey mixing aside, I think this is a more fun, lively and "normal" selection than usual. Nothing to prove with obscurity after obscurity, mainly banging tunes and huge favorites that stuck out when quickly rifling through. Will try to bring a bit more of this type of thing to future shows, minus the no sleep.

Johannes Auvinen , best known by the stage name Tin Man, is California born electronic music producer, live-act and dj. Producing music for more than a decade, and named the master of the neo-acid genre, Tin Man continues to evolve with every release that comes under his name on the labels such Infrastructure New York, Killekill, Keys Of Life and more. He is also part of The Acid Symphony Orchestra and has turned out a standalone neo-classical and ambient work, Vienna Blue. Auvinen's recent output includes collaborations with Donato Dozzy and Cassegrain.

With his contribution to Bassiani Podcast series that was recorded at BASSIANI in July, now Vienna based Tin Man delivers one hour of highly improvisational live mix. The whole set is a deep dive into drifting, energetic and pulsing acid techno.

Last September we invited The Bunker NY for a showcase with Tin Man, Moritz von Oswald, Bryan Kasenic & Patrick Russell. 

Artist statement;
"I was excited about the line up for the night with some favorites, Bryan Kasenic and Patrick Russell. I was also thrilled and star struck to open for Moritz Von Oswald. Moments before I was to go on my computer refused to start. I scrambled to recable and ended up playing with a very stripped down set up of only 303s and drum machines direct into the sound system. 

I was nervous to start, but happy to perform in this raw acid style. It was a lot of fun!"
