The Velvet Ropes deliver their seventh original song, “Troublesome Fire,” inspired by the East Troublesome Creek Fire that devastated Grand Lake, Colorado, on October 21, 2020. The track tells the poignant story of Lyle and Marilyn Hileman, an elderly couple who chose to stay in their cherished home of nearly 50 years as the wildfire consumed 193,812 acres and destroyed over 350 homes. Armed only with their unwavering love and unshakable faith, Lyle and Marilyn displayed uncommon courage, devotion, and conviction in the face of a terrifying fate.

Featuring guest harmonica player Bob Reed, “Troublesome Fire” fuses raw emotion with a blues and roots rock sound.  Regular band members Lance Woodson (guitar, bass), Cinco Barnes (lead vocals, guitar), Perin Moretti (keyboards), and Brent Taylor (drums) round out the lineup in a monster performance that kicks in the door and demands to be heard.

Guitarist Lance Woodson (https://soundcloud.com/devquixote) and synth composer Eric Krause (https://soundcloud.com/user-290918585) have collaborated on a new ambient track, "The Wonder Of It All." Combining Woodson’s expressive guitar with Krause’s synth arrangements, the song creates an uplifting and ethereal soundscape. "The Wonder Of It All" explores themes of awe and interconnectedness, offering a reflective listening experience.

On November 13, 1885, ten miners were killed in a premature explosion deep inside the Bull Domingo Mine near Silver Cliff, Colorado. Working in close quarters while handling multiple charges, they were victims of the era’s perilous mining practices—where speed often outweighed safety, and flickering lanterns lit the fuse on tragedy. “The Tomb at Bull Domingo” is an ambient elegy for those lost souls and the silence left behind. Wind-blown and mournful, it echoes the sorrow of a mountain that once swallowed men whole and never gave them back.  Guitar by Devquixote. This is a guitar improv done with my strat using Fralin Vintage Hot pickups.  A sustainer pedal is used to give a bagpipe droning type of effect while playing melody over it.  A couple bars of the melody are shamelessly stolen from the song Sgt Mackenzie.
