Funk, Jazz, House, R&B are all influences in the EP we present you with today. Enter Juravlove; a producer, DJ and radio host based out of St. Petersburg, Russia who has been a central figure in the city's thriving underground scene. A key member of the Polyritm collective and regular on Test FM radio, Juravlove (real name Igor Zhuravlev) epitomises the sound associated with Russia at the moment - groovin, jazzy, soulful house. His latest musical offering is a six-tracker, 'Pepa EP', coming out via Délicieuse Musique's excellent sub-label Noire & Blanche, home to artists such as Folamour, Loure, Leon Revol and A Vision of Panorama. Throughout these six tracks, Juravlove explores a certain mood of jazzy house - catchy synth melodies, rhythmic vocal shots and funk guitar samples all feature over constant four-to-the-floor drums. 

For our premiere today we chose to pay particular attention to the EP's title track - Pepa. It opens up the EP nicely with warm and soulful pads, reverbed vocals and playful synthlines. It's a classic deep house track, one that is sure to create an atmosphere at any club. The EP's simplicity is also it's beauty - If you're into your classic house vibes, this release is for you. All six tracks share the same level of energy - plenty of bang for your buck!

For the past seven years Kornél Kovács has been busy rocking dancefloors and boomboxes worldwide as one third of Stockholm’s Studio Barnhus alongside Axel Boman and Petter Nordkvist. The label and DJ trio is spearheading a new era of fearless Swedish off-centre dance music, straddling the line between the cute and the menacing.

Anticipation for Kovács' debut album has been rocketing following stand out releases like 2014's wistful Szikra, last year’s mad party anthem Pantalón on Glasgow's Numbers imprint and the late night groove of Space Jam on Smallville Records.

On The Bells, Kovács pops open his trunk full of sounds nicked from the lost and found bins of nightclubs all over the world. From the distorted organ chords of BB to the stripped down trancehall beats of Josey’s Tune and Szív Utca and the title track's cinematic romanticism, it's all of the bells and all of the whistles - further positioning Kovács as one of the most characteristic producers of modern house music.

The record was completed in an intense two-week session with Kovács' great friend and studio engineer Matt Karmil in the winter of 2016. Another close friend, artist Malin Gabriella Nordin, has created the album artwork together with her brother Jonas.

Prompted directly by Kovács to give his report on the record, Studio Barnhus label boss Axel Boman had the following to say:

Kornél's bells will echo far beyond the nervous and trend sensitive ”dance" genre that our label sometimes is associated with, and into pop history. It’s one of our best, most innovative and creative releases to date, and the fact that one of my best friends has managed to do this on the label we share together makes me so proud that I want to cry. ”The Bells” is the reason I dreamed of starting a label in the first place.

Completing a triptych of fantastic LPs for 2016, Will Saul’s Aus Music is delighted to announce the debut full length fromYouandewan. The Berlin based Brit’s ten track ‘There Is No Right Time’ lands in October 2016 and shows a distinct development of his musical style.

Youandewan is Ewan Smith, a DJ and producer who has quietly but consistently gone about forging his own tender brand of deep house. He has been doing so since 2009 and most recently settled on this label with tracks that are shy but seductive, and full of both motive and emotive forces. This album stays true to that narrative, but sees Ewan finding his feet with his mostaccomplished and elegant work to date.

Much of the music was sketched out during a wintery Berlin three years ago. Having left London, hungover from a breakup,Smith found himself broke and secluded in an apartment for four months. All this lent the music he wrote a melancholic vibe;one that nods to the lonely nature of the job and to the darker side of constant partying and all that comes with it.

A swelling, expansive piece of melodic atmospherics starts things off, then the soft hues of analog chords bring a neon glow to

the weightless whirl of ‘Be Good To Me, Poly.’ Soaring synths marry with a raw drum and bass combo on “Waiting for L,’ then ’Time To Leave (Can’t Mix)’ resets to a piano laced beatdown vibe that is wilfully wallowing. ‘10405 (Alice)’ is a shimmering, crescendoing piece, and from there the second half of the album begins to take an upward and optimistic swing through the floating, graceful harmonies of ’Our Odyssey.’

‘Something Keeps Me Real Quiet’ is a concession to the ‘floor with its rusted electro slither, ‘Left On Lucy’ calls upon friend Huerta for a hi-tech soulful house cut Derrick May would be proud of, and 'Earnest Kelly' nods to the ‘80s with its stomping retrosynthesis. Finally, ‘4D Anxiety’ allows all the pent up emotion and energy to dissipate with a playful hip-hop jam effortlessly tapped out on an MPC.

‘There Is No Right Time’ is a listening album which proves that deep house done well needn’t be reserved for the club. It’s a vulnerable and musical work that stays with the listener long after the final chords have dissipated.

‘No smoke’ is full of spacey pads, roidy’ AF perc sequences and flushing soundscapes with rolling hills peaking over in the Hinterland.
