New York based D.C. LaRue has been recording and performing since 1974 but it was his track “Cathedrals” in ’76 that really got him noticed amongst the heavy weight disco releases of the time.  The double A-side 12" single of "Cathedrals" was one of the earliest commercially available 12" singles and went on to hit number 1 on the Billboard Dance Music Club and Disco Single charts.

Subsequent singles “Overture” and “Indiscreet” both topped out at number 2 on the Billboard Dance Music Club charts and “Indiscreet” became an influential track in the hip hop sampling world.

Fast forward to the present day and armed with digital transfers of the original master tapes, Z Records has commissioned remixes of these classic tracks plus “Let Them Dance” and “Do You Want The Real Thing”.

Released over two limited edition picture sleeve 12’s pressed exclusively for Record Store Day 2018, the remixes come from Idjut Boys, Ron Basejam, Dr Packer, Folamour, JKriv and Joey Negro.

Kiu D's debut long-player The Journey was something of a hit for Masterworks Music in the summer of 2017. Here, tracks from that well-received set receive the remix treatment from various label affiliates. Rising star and Glitterbox regular Dr Packer steps up first to turn "Dynamite" into a hybrid chunk of orchestral disco/funk-fuelled house bliss, before Bachgenaur recasts "You Don't Have To" as a Red Rack'em-esque wonky disco-house anthem. Elsewhere, Fingerman steals the show with a mid-tempo boogie take on "Good Luck", while Hotmood's version of "Sweet Is Better" is a bouncy, life-enhancing deep house bumper.

1. Dynamite - [Dr Packer Remix]

All tracks have some kind of story but this is a rather special one. Recently legendary American dance producer Arthur Baker discovered in his storage 2 cuts on 1/4” tape ’Reachin’ & ‘Good Good Lovin’ he recorded in 1979 that for some insane reason have never seen the light of day. He asked Hifi Sean if he would be interested in doing something with them. Within one play Hifi was blown away and brought on board Yam Who? and they quickly got to work resurrecting these soulful disco anthems. Main cut featured here ‘Reachin’ with Minnie Gardners fierce vocals (think Loleatta Holloway) just needed some modern day dance floor energy. Salvaging the useable sections of the tape that were not worn through time and 2 weeks later they bring this percussive disco monster back to life. Look out for the forthcoming 7" via Prime Direct Distribution.

"Super smooth groove-smiths Whiskey Disco have distilled another disco bomb here. Thoma Cher is the supplier of the good times via, firstly, the pure party gem that is "Holiday Holiday", on an EP that marks Cher's first solo outing on this label. "Dancer" is an uplifting track with a warped bassline that wraps itself round the sliding hi hats and loose drums as boogie synths add colour. "Be My Love" is an instantly recognisable gem with a fat bassline slowed to a sensuous pace overloaded with breathy vocals. Great stuff."

Daje Funk have been continuing their quest to re-invent funk for the modern dance-floor with some seriously outstanding quickfire releases. Their recent editions featuring some of the edit scenes stand-out artists including De Gama, Les Inferno, DJ Rocca and The Funk District are must haves.

Next in line for the Daje Funk release treatment is their Cutz Vol. 1, their first three track EP. It features one of the hottest breakthrough names on the scene in several years Monsieur Van Pratt alongside Pina Edit’s heads Matalo! and Paul Older who puts in another star appearance. It’s another 10” which any self respecting selector will need to add to their collection of modern funk re-imaginings.

First up is Monsieur Van Pratt with Feeling Funky. If ever there was a track name which summed up a track then that was it. Huge brass stabs underpinned by funk fueled wah guitar make way for an outstanding diva soul vocal. It’s a track which ebbs and flows perfectly building up to a stand out piano solo. This is unashamed dance-floor gold from a producer who will be one of the leading lights for some years to come of the strength of his recent releases.

Next up is the carnival boogie of Matalo!’s Jito. You can feel and taste the energy dripping off this track as it dances around you decorating you with coulourful necklaces and filling your pockets with doubloons. It’s a track which elicits radiant colours and warmth.

Closing the EP out is the ever reliable Paul Older who has been behind some serious dance-floor gems over the last 12 months. Here he delves into some deep soul infused funk with Faces. Right from the first bass notes this is a track which it is impossible not to dance to. Building a hypnotic groove it soon works its way towards a fierce vocal. Cue dance-floor scenes galore.

Cutz Vol. 1 is another sure fire club smash of an EP!
