Born Johny Gonzalez, Yawny started as a songwriter and journalist in New York City. In 2017 he moved to Los Angeles with the goal of uplifting and aligning himself with more queer voices. He accomplished this within his first year, writing several songs for Jussie Smollett's character on the FOX series Empire.

In 2019 he scored his first Grammy nomination as a background vocalist on H.E.R's "Hard Place" (Song of The Year, Record of The Year). 

That same year he'd be introduced to Thai-Pop performer Pyra. He'd help her write a series of EPs and singles that champion sexuality, feminism, social justice, and mental health, released through Warner Music in 2020. Together they scored an NME award for her single "Yellow Fever" in 2021 (Best Asian Song). He co-penned her 2023 releases, "Out!" (declared theLGBTQIA+ Anthem of 2022 by Lifted Magazine & MTVAsia), and "Sugar & Spice," a collaboration with New Orleans artist Boyfriend, which is featured in the Queer as Folk reboot, ABC's Queens and SyFy's Chucky series. 

Recent songwriting releases include The Amours, John Lindahl, Kandy Muse, Cam Anthony and Keiynan Lonsdale. 

As an artist, YawnyBlew released his debut album Midnight In Brooklyn in the spring of 2022 and sophomore album DREAMBIIG in fall 2023. Other notable releases include "EvRyDay EvRy Nite" (featured in the midseason trailer of For The Boys), RIP EP (RollingStone India) and "Can't Compete" (Intomore, THEM, Instinct Magazine).
