ਘੋਰ ਦੁਖ੍ਯੰ ਅਨਿਕ ਹਤ੍ਯੰ ਜਨਮ ਦਾਰਿਦ੍ਰੰ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖ੍ਯਾਦੰ ॥
ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ, ਭਿਆਨਕ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕੇਲਸ਼, (ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਖ਼ੂਨ, ਜਨਮਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂਤਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਗ਼ਰੀਬੀ, ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਪੁਆੜੇ
Excruciating pain, countless killings, reincarnation, poverty and terrible misery

ਮਿਟੰਤ ਸਗਲ ਸਿਮਰੰਤ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੈਸੇ ਪਾਵਕ ਕਾਸਟ ਭਸਮੰ ਕਰੋਤਿ ॥੧੮॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਅੱਗ ਲੱਕੜਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਆਹ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧੮।
are all destroyed by meditating in remembrance on the Lord's Name, O Nanak, just as fire reduces piles of wood to ashes. ||18||

ਈਧਣੁ ਕੀਤੋਮੂ ਘਣਾ ਭੋਰੀ ਦਿਤੀਮੁ ਭਾਹਿ ॥
ਮੈਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰਾ ਬਾਲਣ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਰਤਾ ਕੁ ਅੱਗ ਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ (ਉਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਹੀ ਬਾਲਣ ਸੜ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਹ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! 
I gathered together a great stack of firewood, and applied a tiny flame to light it.

ਮਨਿ ਵਸੰਦੜੋ ਸਚੁ ਸਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਭੇ ਡੁਖੜੇ ਉਲਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
ਜੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸੱਚਾ ਸਾਂਈ ਵੱਸ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੋਝੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।
When the True Lord and Master abides in one's mind, O Nanak, all sins are dispelled. ||2||

ਜੁਧ ਕੇ ਜਿਤਈਆ ਰੰਗ ਭੂਮ ਕੇ ਭਵਈਆ ਭਾਰ ਭੂਮ ਕੇ ਮਿਟਈਆ ਨਾਥ ਤੀਨ ਲੋਕ ਗਾਈਐ ॥
(ਉਹ) ਯੁੱਧ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਤਣ ਵਾਲਾ, ਰੰਗ-ਭੂਮੀ ਵਿਚ ਫਿਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ, ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਭਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਟਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਤਿੰਨਾ ਲੋਕਾ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਦਾ ਹੈ।
His Name is sung in all the three worlds, who is the conqueror of wars, the mover on the stage and the effacer of the burden of earth.

ਕਾਹੂ ਕੇ ਤਨਈਆ ਹੈ ਨ ਮਈਆ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਭਈਆ ਕੋਊ ਛਉਨੀ ਹੂ ਕੇ ਛਈਆ ਛੋਡ ਕਾ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਲਾਈਐ ॥
ਜੋ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ (ਤਨਈਆ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਾਤਾ ਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਭਰਾਤਾ ਹੈ, ਧਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ (ਛੌਨੀ) ਦੀ ਛਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਛਡ ਕੇ (ਹੋਰ) ਕਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਲਗਾਈ ਜਾਏ
He hath neither a son, nor mother non brother He is the Support of the earth, forsaking such Lord whom should we love?

ਸਾਧਨਾ ਸਧਈਆ ਧੂਲ ਧਾਨੀ ਕੇ ਧੁਜਈਆ ਧੋਮ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਧਰਈਆ ਧਿਆਨ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਸਦਾ ਲਾਈਐ ॥
ਸਾਧਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਧਣ ਵਾਲੇ, ਧਰਤੀ ('ਧੂਲਧਾਨੀ') ਨੂੰ ਆਧਾਰ ('ਧੁਜਈਆ') ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ, ਆਕਾਸ਼ ('ਧੋਮ-ਧਾਰ') ਨੂੰ ਟਿਕਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ('ਧਰੱਯਾ') ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਸਦਾ ਲਗਾਇਆ ਜਾਏ।
We should always meditate upon Him who is instrumental in all accomplishments, establisher of the earth and Support of the sky.


ਆਉ ਕੇ ਬਢਈਆ ਏਕ ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਜਪਈਆ ਅਉਰ ਕਾਮ ਕੇ ਕਰਈਆ ਛੋਡ ਅਉਰ ਕਉਨ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੪॥੪੩॥
ਉਮਰ ਦੇ ਵਧਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ, ਇਕ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਜਪਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ, (ਸਾਰੇ) ਕੰਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਰਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਛਡ ਕੇ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਜਾਏ? ॥੪॥੪੩॥
When should we meditate upon forsaking the Lord who prolongs the age of our life, who causes the Name to be repeated and all other works to be done?4.43.

ਛਤ੍ਰਧਾਰੀ ਛਤ੍ਰੀਪਤਿ ਛੈਲ ਰੂਪ ਛਿਤਨਾਥ ਛੌਣੀ ਕਰ ਛਾਇਆ ਬਰ ਛਤ੍ਰੀਪਤ ਗਾਈਐ ॥
(ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਛਤਰਧਾਰੀ, ਛਤਰਪਤਿ (ਛਤਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ) ਛੈਲ ਰੂਪ (ਸੁੰਦਰ ਰੂਪ) ਵਾਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਵੀ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹੈ। (ਉਹ) ਪ੍ਰਿਥਵੀ (ਛੌਣੀ) ਦੇ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ, ਸੁੰਦਰ ਛਾਇਆ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਛਤਰੀ-ਪਤਿ (ਰਾਜਾ) ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗਾਵਿਆ ਜਾਦਾ ਹੈ।
He is sung as the canopied monarch, the Lord of canopies, a winsome entity, the Master and Creator of the earth and the superb support.

ਬਿਸ੍ਵ ਨਾਥ ਬਿਸ੍ਵੰਭਰ ਬੇਦਨਾਥ ਬਾਲਾਕਰ ਬਾਜੀਗਰਿ ਬਾਨਧਾਰੀ ਬੰਧ ਨ ਬਤਾਈਐ ॥
ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਦਾ ਨਾਥ, ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਨੂੰ ਭਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ, ਵੇਦਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਥ ਅਤੇ ਉੱਚੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। (ਉਹ) ਬਾਜੀਗਰ ਵਾਗ ਅਨੇਕ ਰੂਪ (ਬਾਨ) ਧਾਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ, (ਕਿਸੇ) ਬੰਧਨ ਵਿਚ ਨਾ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਦਸਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
He is the Lord Sustainer of the Universe, Master of Vedas depicted as Lord having discipline.

ਨਿਉਲੀ ਕਰਮ ਦੂਧਾਧਾਰੀ ਬਿਦਿਆਧਰ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਚਾਰੀ ਧਿਆਨ ਕੋ ਲਗਾਵੈ ਨੈਕ ਧਿਆਨ ਹੂੰ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
ਨਿਉਲੀ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ, ਦੁੱਧ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਜੀਣ ਵਾਲੇ, ਵਿਦਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਚਾਰੀ (ਉਸੇ ਵਿਚ) ਧਿਆਨ ਲਗਾਉਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਜ਼ਰਾ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਵੀ ਧਿਆਨ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ।
The Yogis performing Neoli Karma (cleansing of intestines), those subsisting only on milk, learned and celibates, all meditate upon Him, but without an iota of getting His comprehension.

ਰਾਜਨ ਕੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਮਹਾਰਾਜਨ ਕੇ ਮਹਾਰਾਜਾ ਐਸੋ ਰਾਜ ਛੋਡਿ ਅਉਰ ਦੂਜਾ ਕਉਨ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੩॥੪੨॥
(ਉਹ) ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ, ਮਹਾਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਮਹਾਰਾਜਾ ਹੈ, ਅਜਿਹੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਛਡ ਕੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜੇ ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਜਾਏ ॥੩॥੪੨॥
He is the king of kings and emperor of emperors, Who else should be meditated upon, forsaking such a Supreme monarch?.3.42.
