ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੫ ॥
Shalok, Fifth Mehla:

ਤੈਡੀ ਬੰਦਸਿ ਮੈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਡਿਠਾ ਤੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਣਾ ॥
ਹੇ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਨਾਨਕ (ਜੀ)! ਤੇਰੀ ਕੋਈ ਗੱਲ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਪਦੀ, ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ (ਸਗੋਂ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ ।
I have not seen any other like You. You alone are pleasing to Nanak's mind.

ਘੋਲਿ ਘੁਮਾਈ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਵਿਚੋਲੇ ਜੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੰਤੁ ਪਛਾਣਾ ॥੧॥
ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਵਿਚੋਲੇ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਹੈ (ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਹੈ) ।੧।
I am a dedicated, devoted sacrifice to that friend, that mediator, who leads me to recognize my Husband Lord. ||1||

ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਬਸੰਤੁ ॥
First Mehla, Basant:

ਰੁਤਿ ਆਈਲੇ ਸਰਸ ਬਸੰਤ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੇਹੜੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਬਸੰਤ ਦੀ) ਰੁੱਤ ਆਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਾਲੀ) ਇਸ ਰੁੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਖਿੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
The season of spring, so delightful, has come.

ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਰਵਹਿ ਸਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਚਾਇ ॥
(ਲੋਕ ਬਸੰਤ ਰੁੱਤੇ ਖਿੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਫੁੱਲ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਕਈ ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਭੇਟ ਚੜ੍ਹਾ ਕੇ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ । 
Those who are imbued with love for You, O Lord, chant Your Name with joy.

ਕਿਸੁ ਪੂਜ ਚੜਾਵਉ ਲਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥
ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਤੇਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਮੈਂ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਫੁੱਲ) ਭੇਟਾ ਕਰਾਂ? (ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਮੈਂ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਾ? ।੨।
Whom else should I worship? At whose feet should I bow? ||1||

ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸਾ ਕਹਉ ਰਾਇ ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼-ਰੂਪ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
I am the slave of Your slaves, O my Sovereign Lord King.

ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਨ ਮਿਲੈ ਕਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਜੁਗਤੀ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਥਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦੀ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
O Life of the Universe, there is no other way to meet You. ||1||Pause||

ਤੇਰੀ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਏਕਾ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਰੂਪ ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਹਸਤੀ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰੇ ਰੂਪ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹਨ । 
You have only One Form, and yet You have countless forms.

ਕਿਸੁ ਪੂਜ ਚੜਾਵਉ ਦੇਉ ਧੂਪ ॥
ਤੈਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਧੂਪ ਦਿਆਂ?
Which one should I worship? Before which one should I burn incense?

ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਹਾ ਪਾਇ ॥
ਤੈਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਫੁੱਲ ਆਦਿਕ) ਭੇਟਾ ਧਰਾਂ? ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ । 
Your limits cannot be found. How can anyone find them?

ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸਾ ਕਹਉ ਰਾਇ ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼-ਰੂਪ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੨।
I am the slave of Your slaves, O my Sovereign Lord King. ||2||

ਤੇਰੇ ਸਠਿ ਸੰਬਤ ਸਭਿ ਤੀਰਥਾ ॥
ਹੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ! ਤੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੱਠ ਸਾਲ (ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ ਦੀਆਂ ਬੀਸੀਆਂ) ਹਨ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਤੀਰਥ ਹਨ । 
The cycles of years and the places of pilgrimage are Yours, O Lord.

ਤੇਰਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰਾ ॥
ਤੂੰ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ—ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸਮਝੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ,
Your Name is True, O Transcendent Lord God.

ਤੇਰੀ ਗਤਿ ਅਵਿਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਣੀਐ ॥
ਜਾਣੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ । ਇਹ ਸਮਝਣ ਦਾ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੀ 
Your State cannot be known, O Eternal, Unchanging Lord God.

ਅਣਜਾਣਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੀਐ ॥੩॥
(ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣ ਕੇ) ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
Although You are unknown, still we chant Your Name. ||3||

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਵੇਚਾਰਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਹੈ ॥
(ਨਿਰਾ ਮੈਂ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈਂ) ਗ਼ਰੀਬ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀਹ ਆਖ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? 
What can poor Nanak say?

ਸਭੁ ਲੋਕੁ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਏਕਸੈ ॥
ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਨੂੰ ਸਲਾਹ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਾਂ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ) ।
All people praise the One Lord.

ਸਿਰੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਲੋਕਾ ਪਾਵ ਹੈ ॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮੈਂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ ਸਿਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਦਮਾਂ ਤੇ ਹੈ ।
Nanak places his head on the feet of such people.

ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਜਾਉ ਜੇਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਵ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਤਨੇ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਹਨ ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਤੇਰੇ ਇਹ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਨਾਮ ਤੇਰੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਬਣਾਏ ਹਨ) ।੪।੨।
I am a sacrifice to Your Names, as many as there are, O Lord. ||4||2||
