(ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਦੀਨਾ-ਦੁਖੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੰਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਉਬਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਅਤਿਆਚਾਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਵਿਨਾਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
He always Sustains the Lowly, protects the saints and destroys the enemies.

ਪੱਛ ਪਸੂ ਨਗ ਨਾਗ ਨਰਾਧਪ ਸਰਬ ਸਮੈ ਸਭ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਰੈ ॥
ਪੰਛੀਆਂ, ਪਸ਼ੂਆਂ, ਪਹਾੜਾ, ਸੱਪਾ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਭ ਵੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
At all times he Sustains all, animals, birds, mountains (or trees), serpents and men (kings of men).

ਪੋਖਤ ਹੈ ਜਲ ਮੈ ਥਲ ਮੈ ਪਲ ਮੈ ਕਲਿ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਮ ਬਿਚਾਰੈ ॥
(ਜੋ) ਜਲ-ਥਲ (ਵਿਚਲੇ ਜੀਵਾ) ਦਾ ਪਲ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪਾਲਣ ਪੋਸ਼ਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਲਿ-ਕਾਲ (ਵਿਚ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦਾ) ਕਰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਚਾਰਦਾ।
He Sustains in an instant all the beings living in water and on land and doth not ponder over their actions.

ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਦਇਆ ਨਿਧਿ ਦੋਖਨ ਦੇਖਤ ਹੈ ਪਰੁ ਦੇਤ ਨ ਹਾਰੈ ॥੧॥੨੪੩॥
ਉਹ ਦੀਨ-ਦਿਆਲ, ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ, ਦੋਖਾ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖ ਕੀ ਵੀ ਦੇਣੋ ਸੰਕੋਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ॥੧॥੨੪੩॥
The Merciful Lord of the Lowly and the treasure of Mercy sees their blemishes, but doth not fail in His Bounty. 1.243.

The word "Akal" mean the "timeless primal being" and the word "Ustat" (from the Sanskrit word 'stuti') means "praise". So together, the words "Akal Ustat" mean "the praise of the Timeless One". In it, Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru writes that God is worshipped by various peoples in many different ways, and with varying names and methods:

He is an Inconceivable Entity, External and Attire-less. He is without attachment, colour, form and mark. He distinct from all others of various colours and signs. He is the Primal being, Unique and Changeless.(3) He is without colour, mark, caste and lineage. He is the without enemy, friend, father and mother. He is far away from all and closest to all. His dwelling is within water, on earth and in heavens.(4)
