"“This was my first time playing Nowadays, and it was a huge privilege to perform in the space. The set was much different than I planned: I'd prepared 50 or so records and a digital playlist with about the same number of songs. When I got to the gig, an image flashed in my head of my USB still in the CDJs at my studio. I hoped it wasn't true, but my stick was in fact not with me, and it was vinyl or nothing.

Funny enough, this actually brought me a sense of relief. An element of bad luck or chaos acts as both a constraint as well as freedom from the self-imposed burden of perfection. I've jokingly projected this phenomenon into a deity called "The Hand". You can certainly hear working it in this mix. What begins as discomfort evolves into an exciting surrender to entropy.” - @30000AD

Lost In Space by New York City based Warren Doris flew under the radar upon its initial release in 1981. Despite radio play in the Northeastern US, the tune never completely broke out and instead became a closely guarded secret among soul music aficionados. More than four decades after its release, the emotional power of Warren’s vocal performance and the lush, swelling arrangement have cemented the record’s well deserved status as a holy grail for collectors.

Meticulously remixed and remastered from the original 16-track tapes by Warren himself, this new edition of Lost In Space does justice to the original with three all new cuts; The familiar extended mix and new radio edit pair with an instrumental version and a heavy dub of “Let It Show,” the flip side on the original pressing.

“This was my breakup song for my ex-wife. I was 28 and she was 32 at the time. Now here we are 43 years later. It was originally released on my label, Maya Communications. At the time it got a bunch of airplay in New York, South Carolina, and Washington D.C., but I got jerked by the distributors on my money, so I couldn’t keep up with the demand for the repress. The fact that it stayed enough to be selling for $1000 says a bunch.” - Warren Doris

100% Silk are releasing Silk to Dry the Tears, a 31 track compilation commemorating those lost in the tragic Ghost Ship fire in Oakland just over a year ago. Half of the profits are being donated to an organization called Safer DIY Spaces that emerged in the wake of the disaster. They “offer confidential guidance, financial assistance, and labor to the frequently vulnerable members of the Bay Area’s communities who live and/or work in non-traditional «DIY» spaces.”

Bolting Bits is more than happy to help support the cause by promoting the compilation and premiering the first track on it from Birmingham-based The Cyclist entitled The City Hangover. 

An emotional piece at its core, it starts off on a bittersweet note with warm yet brooding pads and a synth melody that opens up as it progresses until it climaxes and mutes to a lighthearted arpeggiated pattern. Meanwhile, atmospheric noise brings up the tension as the various percussion instruments build the rhythm to a second, more rhythmical apex. The song fits as an appropriate metaphor to the tragedy at hand, melancholic after the loss yet building positivity as time goes on through the community efforts made to help those affected and others who may find themselves in tough situations.
