Dear friends of Connaisseur,
In our scene, a decade is a long time.
When we started the label, we didn't have a master plan, we simply wanted to put out good music we loved, of which we were sure others would love it as well. The way Connaisseur subsequently grew came naturally. If you are music lovers like we are, current musical tendencies will of course always have an infuence on your sound,but basically we stayed true to ourselves and our core has always stayed the same. Yes, we love melodies, yes, we love deepness and yes, we love great emotions, but in which electronic style these are conveyed, is rather secondary. That is our leitmotif, from "Eve By Day" until today and every day to come.
For our anniversary release, we had the idea of asking for collaborations only, as we like the energy of two creative minds coming together and creating something special. Some of the chosen couples had already worked together, others had not. As a result, we now have 6 collaborations, which will be released digitally in two parts and as a selection of three tracks from the two parts on a very nice, limited vinyl.
We are very happy about the variety of styles we have received: From modern trance in the best possible manner f r o m Olderic and Peter Pardeike, over timeless Detroit-infuenced techno-guardian sound by the two legends Aril Brikha and Chymera, start-of-the-art melodic tech-house from our fgureheads Lehar and Musumeci, a cover-version of the 90ies alternative rock classic „Pets“ from Pornos for Pyros by our norse darlings Of Norway in collaboration with the Scandinavian pop- star Linnea Dale and the multi-instrumentalist Preben Olram, a Warp-style electronica pearl by the Wareika sidekick project Silky Raven together with Hamburg club-dj legend Solaris 100, to last but not least a techy guarantor by Maltese pirate The Element and Connaisseur label head Alex Flitsch.
This is part two of 10y of Connaisseur featuring Aril Brikha & Chymera, The Element & Alex Flitsch and Of Norway & Linnea Dale & Preben Olram.

01 Aril Brikha & Chymera - Nihari (Snippet)

French imprint A-Traction Records returns with a new EP from Martial Thebault aka Marst late June, featuring three original compositions and two remixes from Moteka. 

Here we see Marst return showcasing his melodious, deep techno style which has seen heavy support from French electronic music pioneer Laurent Garnier since his humble beginnings. 

Up first is title track our Debut Transmission today ‘Nanga’ which sees Marst blend square wave arpeggios and an amalgamation of delayed staccato synth stabs with weighty rhythms and sporadic organic percussive rolls. The ‘Vocal Mix’ of ‘Future’ follows and embraces a deeper aesthetic via elongated sub drones, stuttering bass hits and snaking resonant lead hook, whilst psychedelic vocal murmurs further fuel its heady vibe.

Fellow Frenchman Moteka then turns in his first interpretation next with ‘Remix 21’ taking a more robust approach with pounding drums, murky atmospheric sweeps and vacillating synth chimes which ebb and flow throughout the groove. The ‘Instrumental’ of the original follows stripping back the vibe to it’s raw melodic state before Moteka’s ‘Remix 13’ closes with on a more dubbed out feel with expansive echoes, broken rhythms and low-pitched vocal chops.

Cue two beautiful compositions from Bernhard Siefert, the man we all know and love best as Nhar. Building on his previous Darkroom Dubs excursion in 2017 - not to mention multiple expeditions on the likes of My Favorite Robot, Tenampa, Correspondant, Mobilee, Modelisme and many more respected labels - both Psallite and Sibylle spark with that magic, mystic quality he's made his own. Unhurried, subtly layered, forever evolving and ultimately transcending us from the dancefloor to the stars, they're the perfect antidote to both the brutally cold weather most of us are experiencing right now and the perplexing politics.

It's been decades since we needed escapism at this level. Soul soothing, imagination boosting, skin rippling tech noir laced with emotion... From the subtle baroque breezes and gentle raindrops-on-window melodic details of Psallite to the catlike bassline that stalks between the shadows of the pads and eerie arpeggios of Sibylle, this doesn't so much as ease you into the rest of the new year softly but, for a combined 15 minutes, takes you to a new year on a new planet. Nhar always knows how to unify all our senses like this. We suspect we'll be seeing him here again. Stay tuned in the meantime, we're only just getting started and have a lot planned for 2019...

At the beginning of last year I went to listen and see Isolée during his live act in Lausanne. He started that night with a really amazing tune - something so full of love and harmony, something that is definitely rare at the moment.

One week later that song was still in my mind and so I asked Rajko what it was, to which he answered: "I did a soundtrack for a skateboard movie and the track I started my live set with is a draft of it." I asked him to make me an edit to be played in my set. I’ve been playing "Dennis" for the past year in all my sets around the world and always receive a fantastic reaction from the smiling crowd.

One year later this special song called "Dennis" is ready to be played by you and the world and I'm really proud and excited to start "Xtra Tamed" with such a masterpiece! I asked one of my best friends and one of the most talented producers around, Baïkal (from Maeve and Innervisions), to work on the remix and trust me when I say that this rework has a similarly funny but long story as the original cut! Isolée vs Baikal sounds like a match made in heaven, don't ya think?

Maybe one day I'll release a book about all these genius making-of stories but for now, it’s all about the music and emotions. The mastering was carefully done by Hans at Deinklang. You can also check out the skate video mentioned above here: http://rollenaller.de/#
