OPE Rice is from Altus Oklahoma.  Raised on Victory Street, Rice was taught fundamental lessons that shatter the expectation of society.  “OPE stands for Opal Pauline Edwards. She was my grandmother and her lessons are timeless.  She taught me what it means to love, forgive and fight.” Rice grew up in the church and was first inspired spiritually and musically by gospel.  He later then discovered R&B and Hip Hop.  “My mom would have mixtapes of Luther Vandross, Jodeci, you name it she had it.  She would play them loudly as she cooked or cleaned.  Those were good times.”  Over the last decade, he has performed in several venues to include the Hard Rock Cafe in Las Vegas.  Rice has landed several placements to include NBA 2K21.  Although the small town artist had dreams of making it big, he has realized that the “business” isn’t something that he desires. “I enjoy creating and the feeling of freedom that it brings me.  I have always been the person that once there are strings tied to what I am doing that create unnecessary stress or pressure, I’m out.  The correct amount pressure will always make a diamond…that pressure has to be deliberate.”
