RIchard (Dick) G. Crowe - Nov. 25, 1928 to Nov. 29, 2014

Dick Crowe (born Richard Corbeau Goodier Crowe in Peterborough, Upper Canada) was brought up in a musical family and like his older brother soon began playing the piano at a young age. In his teens he was introduced to the trumpet as part of the high school orchestra and after graduating, he played piano in dance orchestras until moving to Toronto, where he continued his music studies.
	
	In 1954, after working in the industry for two years, he decided to join the Navy as a bandsman and did his training on the East Coast. However, after being drafted for training on the West Coast, he was given the opportunity to play french horn when the military needed to fill a musician spot. He found his niche as a pianist in a string orchestra which had been formed out of the military band. At this time, he was introduced to the music of Canadian composer Robert Farnon who was an influence in future music arranging.
	
	When his 5 year tour of duty in the service ended, he moved to Montreal in order to pursue further piano studies and to complete his education. He practiced for 5 hours a day and 6 days a week. The regimen required intensive work on the Chopin Études and countless others. Night school classes and much reading of the classical composers would sow the seeds of musical composition. After over 5 years in Montreal, he returned by train to Halifax, where he freelanced before working again, first with the government and second as a utility worker in the food industry. He retired in 1999. Playing and composing music was always his first passion.
