‘alma blindada’ is an album about human violence as a force of nature. of the geographic and cultural entropy caused by people and their lives and their toil and their pursuit of money and power and joy.

we came to this via heavily following border war and cartel violence news/corrido lore, the power vacuums, the cannibalization of heroes and villains and how who’s who morphs depending on what side you’re rooting for or what area you’re from. we knew we wanted full unironic corridos, we knew we wanted songs and not just world building exercises.

alma blindada means like armored soul, or bulletproof spirit, and for us this is a phrase of reverence of the vast spectrum of potentiality within each person, to enrich or destroy, to tear down or build up. but ‘blindado’ is also maña slang for a ‘protected’ person. so it fit in with the feeling we were trying to convey. of finding the brutal poignancy of the beheading video or the in jokes in the foot soldiers’ wartime loyalty twitter rant. of remaining friends and riders after passing thru the ringer of war, spiritual or physical. the war of the every day, the high stakes of living and working and making your life on the 3.7 million mile wide sacrificial altar they call america.

The chronicle continues, deepening the legend… Out Under Streets serves as a milestone in the profuse and vastly intangible catalog of Bug Bus Piano – a decade into the cult project’s existence, this album stands as its first LP. But Bug Bus Piano, the originator of Hard Ambient, is perhaps better understood as an outlook or world unto itself. At any given moment it is a spirited performance of hyper-ambivalence, a refuge and processing center for personal history, populist strife and achievement, a besieged utopian commune. Out Under Streets is the newest export of this philosophy and perhaps the finest point of entry yet into all that is Bug Bus Piano. Far from didactic, the journey underground and back again concept which structures the record serves as a vehicle to consider what lies beneath the potholes in our pavement and centuries of cracked sidewalk. Every demolition or collapse and each successive failure at putting the pieces back together again. Having received the blessing of Carriswheel, Stern Records is proud to inaugurate itself with a major handmade ambient statement by Bug Bus Piano.

This compilation was made by beautiful humans from all around the world. It is a collection of 11 varied tracks. It is noisy, experimental, sometimes brutal, with choir, different languages, vocals, piano and drums... While the tracks are all different, they are united by the fight against domestic violence.

As you may know, this pandemic is a nightmare for women facing domestic and sexual abuse. In many situations they have been forced into lockdown with their abuser.

The money raised on Bandcamp will go to La Fédération Nationale Solidarité Femmes, a French charity helping women in distress. Please consider buying this release if you appreciate it and spread the word about the current situation.
