It's time for celebration ! As the Worst Records adventure goes on and on, let's take a moment for a multiverse reunion in the form of our first Greatest Hits compilation. This imaginary space is the meeting point between some figures of our hometown and others from outer lands.

You will cross the paths of the authors of the first three releases of the label, namely A Strange Wedding, Christian Coiffure and Jacques Satre (also delivering a mind-warping session under Babiah 8000 alongside Saint-Etienne's activist Farkoner). You'll also hear from Del.Duc & Basic, members of the Positive Education crew. As special guests, we wanted to put some highlights on intriguing faces such as Itako, Gil.Barte and Tassilo Vanhoefen, providing there slow-motion, heavy dream-powered tunes in the style we adore so much. Beesmunt Soundsystem and Black Seed bring up some notable contributions from outside of France, whether it is for a raindance session or a tribal expedition. 
How to sum up this whole vortex of trippy blocks of sound ? Our dear friend Eiger Drums Propaganda has the answer in the opening track : some strange things happen in this city... and this city is Saint Etienne. This being said in a malicious voice, of course.

And then came the Visitations.

The fifth opus of the Worst Records library could appear as an audiobook for transcendental meditations. If the idea of trance-induced state is no surprise in the music we deliver to the world, this new album by Ricco goes beyond. The pair formed by Gil.Barte, head of Kump Records, and HLM38, in charge of house Notte Brigante, dare to offer a sinuous collection of mantras melted in light, silver dust and darkness. Each track navigates through ritualistic slow beats, drum'n'bass-ish half tempo incantations and other mystic hybrid forms not so far from Kode 9esque or Shakletonists reminiscences, just to name a few. The titles evoke a spiritual diagonal, from biblical to islamic worlds and arcanes, passing through persian tradition and obscure references hard to decipher. Several interludes, leading to the final Prelude, stand as resting rooms to drown the listener into purifying dark-ambient, where glitches of enlightenment and distants sounds from nature slowly disappear in divine drones. You now hold in your hands a keyholder to somewhere else, a sonic ally through everyday chaos, and spells to protect the soul.

WORST005 - Ricco - Visitations (previews)

Sydney's club scene is thriving right now, and it is in no small part thanks to the likes of Adi Toohey. Her 360 degree approach takes in DJ sets, a long running radio show on FBi Radio, work behind the counter at The Record Store, and her own parties with the Rimbombo crew. All this has set her on an international trajectory that has seen her play as far afield as New York, Berlin and London. Her sound is accessible but high quality, with emotive house at the root of it all. 

Her mix for us makes no bones about that - it starts with some smooth and warm vocal grooves before a distinctive 90s flavour takes over. The mixing is tight and efficient, and breakbeats, progressive and big rave chords all colour in the bold, hands in the air grooves to make this a perfectly party starting set that wears its heart on its sleeve.

In every country lockdowns are progressively lifting but it seems that we still have to stay at home a bit longer, its still uncertain for our club scene.

Times are strange. We all have to push ourselves forward digitally in order to maintain a "Social DJ Life," which reveals how our social image and music are intrinsically connected; the status of a DJ becomes instantly meaningless without actual people gathering and communing through music.

With the overflowing amount of information, it is sometimes easy to get lost in an endless consumption of content.

I am of course, also part of this social media game, and thought a bit about what I wanted to present within these messy times, I decided to compile a mix of birds singing to help relaxation.

Now that cities are running at idle speed, nature is slowly coming back through unexpected forms:
 
Butterflies can live their life without getting hit by a car, plants are retaking what is theirs and birds fly and parade in front of us, not nagging us but just beautifully expressing their freedom.

This mix idealises my dream journey in nature after lockdown, with all its phases, from apprehension to hope.

I hope you, like me, enjoy the original singers of this world.

This includes a recording I made at the botanical garden of Melbourne when I toured Australia in May 2018.

A mix of various birds talking to me

Camden Arts Centre, Haus der Kulturen der Welt and Ignota Books present a new series of sonic fictions inspired by "The Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction" by Ursula K. Le Guin, reimagining the mix as a container, medicine bundle & chronometer telling the time on another world. 

100% unreleased material from myself, friends and artists I admire, in the form of sketches, drafts, field recordings and archival sounds.
