Blue Eyes

This song is called CROWNS. I can’t remember when I wrote it but it initially started as a simple piano ballad. I wrote this as a reflection on the phenomenon and influence of so called black people, generations and the world over: “from thrones to slums, we’ve seen it all”. once Andrew and I started to work together on some music, I decided to sort through my hard drive in search of inspiration in some sketch ideas I had been carrying around for years. I chose CROWNS at the time because lyrically it still felt relevant to me. As we worked through it though, there was another sensation announcing itself, which gave way to the second part of the song. a simultaneous implosion and explosion inspired by Georgia Anne Muldrow’s song ‘New Orleans’. The final work feels like an appraisal of how dissonant all of life ultimately is. We hope you enjoy listening.

Rather than run the course of the "typical" formula of urban music today with repetitive hooks and 808s, "Commercial Break" blends elements of both old and new elements of lyricism, bounce and distortion that creates an atmosphere made to be loud.

Highly danceable and undeniably witty, this short EP is the perfect intro into the glimpse of the late 20s and early 30 year olds- the "i got this" approach and tone takes game spitting to further heights with fast paced and heavily distorted 808s. 

Sans the preachiness of the self-righteous conscious rap, gems of knowledge get dropped dose by dose whilst wrapped in egotistic poetry that parallels watching yourself in the mirror wearing your most expensive suit and timepiece.

Hart House Hip Hop Ed works with campus partners and community Hip Hop practitioners to further values of representation, collaboration, and social justice, as we explore the key principles of Hip Hop and its importance in our everyday culture. Our first podcast led us to the homie, Colanthony Humphrey, aka Cola. H. Cola draws outside the lines and paints his own path in music and in business. The Toronto-based multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter enjoys the abnormal and adds his own color: to punk rock as the drummer of the OBGMs, touring exclusively as the drummer for Sonreal, and Hip Hop collaborations with Clairmont the Second and DijahSB.
